If This Is Trump’s Best Case, The Ukraine Scandal Is Looking Really Bad For Him
fivethirtyeight ^ | 09/25/2019 | Nate Silver

Sometimes, when a news story is still unfolding in real time, we can’t do much better than to hazard a guess about how it will affect the polls. Of course, we can also not hazard a guess — that is, we can not say anything about it at all. But given that I wrote yesterday about public opinion surrounding the impeachment of President Trump, this is one time when I think it’s worth weighing in on the latest development; namely, the White House’s decision to release, on Wednesday, Trump’s reconstructed conversation (note: not a verbatim transcript) with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky.

This conversation seems to have triggered a nearly Yanny or Laurel-like reaction in my Twitter feed, almost as though people are seeing and hearing two different things. Everyone either seems to think it’s either really bad for Trump, or not very damaging at all, with few people landing in between.

Silver’s final odds were 70-30 for Hillary.

Big media calls this “unsubstantiated”.

Nah. Merely “locker room bluster” to look like a bad ass to your pals. Where’s the actual threat tapes of when he allegedly did this? See how easy that was? Even a deplorable can make crap up.

Democrats Wrote to Ukraine in May 2018, Demanding It Investigate Trump

Democrats wrote to the Ukrainian government in May 2018 urging it to continue investigations into President Donald Trump’s alleged collusion with Russia in the 2016 presidential campaign — collusion later found not to exist.

Last night Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham were all very good. Then Shannon Bream came on with a bunch of experts who seemed to think Trump was in deep trouble because of the Ukraine conversation. This “Republican strategist” (Bushite) Mike Murphy claimed that 30 Republican Senators would vote to convict Trump if they could vote secretly.

Trump’s reconstructed conversation (note: not a verbatim transcript) with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky

When the article starts with BS it is pretty easy to see where it is going. The calls aren't recorded, but the transcript is from notes written as the call was going on. It isn't some kind of "reconstruction" it is a real time written record of what was said.

What the call transcript does show is that Trump and the president of Ukraine had a conversation during which Trump encouraged the president of Ukraine to continue investigations regarding election interference by people in that part of the world in 2016. Just like Senators Menendez, Durbin, and Leahy encouraged the government of Ukraine to investigate Paul Manafort as a part of the Mueller investigation.

The idea that somehow an investigation into possible corrupt actions is designed for political purposes seems to only apply to Republicans. Wasn't the entire Mueller affair really just a political effort by the Democrats to help them win seats in the 2018 midterms?

Biden’s claim of doing this, of course.

What’s the odds of the whistleblower backing out of testifying before Congress?

That’s going to be must see TV as the person will have to divulge who his/her sources were. Did those sources know their recollections were to be part of a complaint.

This ICIG has some issues too. He would have been directly involved in the FISA abuse investigation.

The people who hate Trump don't care if an allegation is legitimate or not, they just want something to remove him from power because his continued insistence on serving in the role of president is a reminder of how powerless they really are.

The people who support Trump aren't going to be swayed by this allegation. They are likely already distrustful of media narratives, and if they don't believe Trump outright, they are comforted by the fact that Biden literally (actual literally, not Biden's version of literally where he always means figuratively) bragged on camera about the very thing Trump said he did.

There are a lot of people not in either camp just tired by all this, probably enough to send ng a presidential election. They hate the noise, the unprofessionalism, the anxiety... All the Dems have to do to win this crowd over in 2020 is not act like a bunch of crazy fools until then and run a presidential candidate more appealing to the public than Trump. Thus far, they are failing and committed to more failing in the future.

It tells me that the establishment Dems are just fine with slipping the dagger into Biden if this is what it takes. If/when he withdraws, the protesters will surface.

Biden has gone from top Democratic dog to Democratic dog house because of one phone call.

The Democrats could have the best audio recording of the phone call in the world, but only Trump knows why he said what he did.

Was the call to smoke out a suspected leaker? Maybe.

I’m sure Trump can afford the best lawyers.
