A lot of times when we want to find out if a movie is woke or not, there arent many options. Usually we defer to critics from major sites or aggregators like Rotten Tomatoes to give us a glimpse into their mind-space to find out if they think a film is woke or not. However, its not particularly reliable and sometimes results in being more confounded than anything. However, there is a website that actually lays out if a movie is woke or not, and rates on how woke it is.
The name of the site is Mediaversity Reviews, and it grades films based on LGBTQ representation, racial representation, gender representation, and religious (which actually translates into Islamic representation).
The curve they grade the films on is A+ through F, and basically only woke films get good grades. The How We Grade page breaks it all down, with A+ meaning the movie is Woke AF while F means that they dont think that the movie should have been greenlit.
As pointed out by Jeremy from Geeks and Gamers, they hate films that celebrate masculinity, heterosexuality, and good storytelling if it doesnt promote the core tenets of Left-wing agitprop.
Yes, even films like Shaft ended up with an F rating because even though the cast is majority black, it contained the promotion of guns, promotion of women as sex objects, and it basically ridiculed todays soy boy culture.
In the review they write
The simple storyline, of reuniting father with son for hijinks and growing pains, suffers under the weight of a terrible script filled with sexism, racism, Islamophobia, and homophobia. Samuel L. Jackson plays a parody of himself, ratcheting up the amount of expletives used by the minute. [ ]
At every turn, the script elevates the mens quest to achieve peak masculinity in lieu of anything that could be construed as remotely feminine. Shaft repeatedly decries JJs flaws as the result of his mommas shit. From JJs healthy diet, respect toward women, avoidance of firearms, and even to the way he dresses, Shaft derides the way a female authority figure has made his son effeminate.
You would think that their harsh criticisms of the plot and character development would have centered around a more implausible facet: a black man reuniting with his son. Yet for some reason that seemed to duly escape the reviewers attention.
However, films like the very long and very boring Captain Marvel managed a B+ for its diversity and female empowerment.
Films like Avengers: Endgame and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood both ended up with a C-.
Hmmm, in other words if a movie is “woke”, it is crappy.
This website may be useful in reverse; the higher the rating, the more it should be avoided.
In a culture where good is bad and bad is good, what does A+ mead?
I was pretty excited about this but no, their idea of wokeness doesn’t correlate 1 to 1 with preachy horribleness, sadly
Mead should be mean. Fingers don’t type like I want them to do.
I don't know, but I graduated the class with flying colors!
lol
All the people who sneered at me for being a Luddite will have to come over to see my physical collection of dvds, and hear cds and read printed books and magazines.
After various censorship ploys as this “rating” system, like China the American citizens will find available for temporary streaming or subscription streaming bundles, only the select films and tv shows that are “woke” and pro-communist. Others will be treated like they are Birth of a Nation or The Jazz Singer. As in extinct and no historical records left undeleted.
I'll bet the reason they gave The Last Jedi (2017) the minus on that A is that it portrays the triumphs of two white guys over all of their enemies (except each other, as Luke Skywalker successfully snookers Kylo Ren; other than that, Kylo pretty easily put one over on Rey and Snoke and Hux alike), the typical feminazi misandrist bad boss Phasma (who ought to be the real heroine in their opinion) is beaten in battle by a (token black) male and possibly killed, and "woke" woman Holdo sacrifices herself for the sake of a whole bunch of white people (plus aliens, but those are tokens or something)! Also, it lacks any shilling for buggery, pole-smoking, carpet-munching, pronoun terrorism, and genital mutilation, and there's no anti-Christian and/or pro-abortion messages.
Did I get that right?
“Well, It (2017) got an F rating there, and here I’d been thinking since it’s from a story by that flaming leftard Stephen King (and has been updated for a “woke” age) it wouldn’t be any good; might just have to check it out after all.”
I wouldn’t. The next movie plans on following the book where it begins with a gay bashing scene and you know, BS about how homosexuals are persecuted in modern day society.
Well, I avoid them all now, so wake me up when one is worth being awoken for.
