KFC in Australia is re-embracing the chains full historic name it was known as prior to the 1990s: Kentucky Fried Chicken.
It could be the end for the initials KFC. Not only that but the chicken chains famous slogan Finger Lickin Good is also having a renaissance. The firms Australian arm is busying itself trademarking a slew of retro themed logos, including a new signature for Colonel Sanders.
Marketing and trends experts have told news.com.au, the re-emergence of the firms full name is a sign the public, wary of the modern day, is finding solace in nostalgia.
Its also an embrace of so-called dude food and rejection of incessant messages for us to eat healthier.

It wasnt the words Kentucky or Chicken that were the problem, but Fried.

KFCs celebration of its buckets full of battered badness was no longer resonating with health conscious diners.
At the time there was a potent fear of fat so there was a belief, apparently, that diners would forget that a fried chicken store was selling fried chicken Dr Lauren Rosewarne, a trends expert at Melbourne University, told news.com.au.
Flash forward several decades and fat has become much less of a bogeyman than sugar and bread.

so I can get more leaf fat to make more lard.
Thats the good stuff.
Makes the best fried chicken (fry hotter, higher smoke point).
Grandma used to make it that way in a cast iron skillet, the way God intended it. When she passed all I wanted was that skillet. I still have it and used it to make fried catfish last night.
Mmmmmmm. Fried catfish....

Agreed. There was a recipe change a few decades back. The chicken was awesome, so was the gravy and coleslaw.
Banquet brand frozen chicken did the same thing a few years back. It was quite good, sold out and the new owner quickly changed the recipe and the new stuff was just nasty. Prior to the recipe change our local stores could not keep it in stock. With the new recipe no one bought it. Then the new owners said they went back to the classic recipe, but it still is not as good.
Something similar happened to KFC.
Actual, Corn Pops used to be called Sugar Pops, and before that was Sugar Corn Pops, and before that (when originally launched) - was Corn Pops.

Same here.
Kentucky Fried Chicken hasn’t been the same since the Col died
St-Hubert BBQ chicken is like “La Cock da rotten crotch”
Thank you for the wise post of valuable information.
It balances out the many posts of, but it tastes so good.
lol
It’s been KFC for almost 20 years now, and they’re #2 behind McDonalds in for restaurant chain revenue. I think they survived the rebranding just fine. The punchline is most of us called it KFC anyway, cause 6 syllables is too much.
A lot of them were switching to high fructose corn syrup at the time. So the sugar content probably is down, calorie count though...
What Freedom said is correct. However, CFA is great for boneless chicken. If you want GOOD bone-in chicken, give Popeyes a second chance. When my family wants good fried chicken, Popeyes is our go-to. We’ve been burned by KFC too many times in the past.
Honestly, the fried chicken from the deli at the neighborhood Safeway is better than KFC.
I’m not sure why their grilled chicken is so small. I do know that about 20-25 years ago, my sister’s boyfriend at the time got a job at the Wampler Foods plant back home. They supplied the chicken parts to all the KFC’s in their region. The parts were either marinated or brined for a short time before they were bagged and shipped. He got an employee discount and got us parts, I think 16 to a case. They were big parts, too. I don’t know if KFC still has a production agreement with them, or someone else is handling it now. If I took a stab, I’d want to say they use smaller or younger parts to lower production costs, but that would affect the Original and Crispy, too, and they’re still good sized. When I do go play fetch and get a bucket, I’ll tell them to give me a mixed grilled/Extra Crispy 12 piece. That way I can emotionally moralize that I’m eating healthy. LOL
Loved it when younger. Is different now. Changing a good thing typical new corporate leader stupidity. Lots of that recently. So disappointing. New Coke, Frosty, Orange Julius, others.
Same bs with portion shrinkage of grocery items, smaller but same price Klondike, ice cream, tuna, Mac & cheese, Rice-A-Roni, bacon, candy bars, popsicles, lots of stuff.
The sugar to corn syrup wave changed the taste of a lot of stuff, too. And created a great many corn-allergic people.
I like the Kentucky Fried Chicken name better than the generic and soulless KFC.
Thighs are the best part of the chicken. They have the most fat, and fat means flavor.
They’re kind of hard to mess up, but you want to cook them until the internal temp is at least 175 F in order to render the fat.
If you’re going to have skin on the chicken it has to be crispy. To me that’s almost as good as KFC.
Thanks for the recipe. Your timing is good. Thighs are on special for 79 cents/lb at the store down the road. I’ll make that recipe next.
Call this chicken talk... So after a little bit of work this morning I ran up to Kroger and I got an 8-piece chilled for $5.39 plus 14 cents tax showed my Kroger card and got a little bit off. You can’t beat $5.39 for eight pieces.
Yes, Orange Julius was another one. We never had one in our town 20 years ago, and would make a shopping trip over a hundred miles away, which included Orange Julius as a treat. Now a glass of water has more flavor.
Going to be good to get the full name back. KFC here in Australia is so much better than back in the States and they have great hot chips.
Having said that they are not as good as Red Rooster, but are better than Chicken Threat (sorry. Want Treat).
Actually the food here has the flavor of food back in 70s America. It still tastes good. Even Maccas isnt vile although Hungry Jacks is better.
We are also finally getting some burgers that are better than any youll find anywhere else. Great time to live down under.
Plus our PM is actually pretty good.
6 CFA stores within 5 mile radius? How could that be?
