Moon buggies and bags of poo: what humans left on the moon
The Guardian ^ | 19 July 2019 | Ian Sample

Posted on 07/20/2019 4:13:03 PM PDT by DUMBGRUNT

In all, the lunar junkyard holds nearly 200 tonnes of human objects. The dusty remains of five Saturn V rocket stages from the Apollo missions are the heaviest single items. Then there are the wreckages of spacecraft that smashed, or were crashed intentionally at the end of their missions, into the lunar surface.

James Irwin, an Apollo 15 astronaut, left a bible on the dashboard of his mission’s buggy.

The least charming are 96 bags for poo, urine and vomit

The crew of Apollo 15 carried an 8.5cm-tall aluminium figure to the moon. Created by the Belgian artist Paul Van Hoeydonck, the Fallen Astronaut was laid on its side with a plaque listing the names of astronauts and cosmonauts who died during the space race.

The writer is an ignoramus. All the stages of the Saturn five were expended and fell to Earth in launching the command and excursion module into Earth orbit. Only the LEM was discarded on the Moon.

“Leave it to the Leftist U.K. rag, The Guardian, to focus the anniversary of the moon landing on the negative.”

It won’t be long before Neil Armstrong will be turned into a criminal invader like they did to Columbus.

I detest these roaches.

The Saturn 5 didn’t go all the way to the moon.

The third stage of the Saturn V's for Apollo's 13-17 were impacted with the moon deliberately, as part of seismic experiments.

Apollo 8, 10, and 11's third stages are in solar orbit. Apollo 12's is in a heliocentric orbit that occasionally turns geocentric - it was last in orbit around Earth in 2002/2003 and is expected to return in the 2040s.

No - most people don’t. It was only a minor part of the overall mission.

I thought the Saturn V parts were on Mars next to the American Flag.

Sweet! To think I was the only one who spotted that stupidity. I should have known other FReepers would have spotted it, too.

That’s because the British haven’t technologically ever come up with anything. Hell they are just now figuring out dentistry. Pure Jealousy!

Only for their opponents, I believe Saul Alinsy said something like "make your enemy live up to impossible standards".

In my climbing days, I met climber that worked for Uncle Sam, setting up radar equipment with an eye on China. Circa 1970.

One component was heavy but the Sherpas liked it!!
It stayed warm, and they slept with it.

Guessing it was something similar?

I wonder if 50 years is long enough for bacteria in poo to evolve into other life forms. We better be armed next time we go back!

If we clean it up we will preemptively put future liberal archaeologists out of business. They’ll have nothing to dig up.
