Guess I’m officially getting old. I only recognize two names and one I don’t like at all.
I figure this for a flop. Pearl was a historically invalid portrayal as was much of the original Midway movie. Any director / screen writer that does not understand that the truth is plenty dramatic does not know the true story.
I am doubtful this will be anymore worth the price of admission than the second “True Grit” was but I’m sure it will mislead masses of youngsters. At least they may know that we actually fought a war against the japs.
Someone needs to do a film bridging Pearl Harbor with The Final Countdown. It can have a Japanese carrier from the strike group that gets sucked into the same storm that pulls in the Nimitz. The Japanese then go on to bomb and strafe the Pearl Harbor of the 80s. They could use stock footage from Pearl Harbor, too.
This movie has already been made.....it was a very good movie and this will be a piece of crap. You can’t make war politically correct...war is hell!!!
There’s a documentary on WWII’s 23rd Headquarters Special Troops, aka the “Ghost Army”.
Future fashion designer Bill Blass was a member, and his fellow troops said he was always the cleanest and best dressed of them, no matter what they were doing or what the conditions were.
If the Japs had sent their Naval infantry invasion force to Hawaii instead of the PI, the war would have lasted a lot, lot longer.
F-14 Tomcat.....awesome machine...I was very sad to see it go!!!!
Agree with that.
“... Glove? Come on....”
Chuckle... my old man was WWII Airborne. He used to RAIL at movies and some of the things in them.
His Absolutely Most Hated movie of all time was the 1966 “Battle of the Bulge”.
He’d say - over and over: “I was there... there was no sunshine... there was no giant tank battle... there was snow, and a Hell of a lot of Germans... and it was REALLY G-damned cold...”
Her name is Teri Nunn, of the band Berlin.
She certainly did cast a spell with her voice in that song.
Thanks, I just watched a YouTube video of her singing it. She is pretty. They show a scrapped B-25 (I think), and the ghost crew appearing as the song goes.
Very well done and it only reinforces how much I like the song.
Pearl Harbor Sucked.
“I remember when our guys were sinking the Akagi and other Jap carriers, the audience cheered.”
I remember that too. I saw the movie at a theatre in downtown Minneapolis. When the bombs started hitting the flight decks of the Japanese carriers, the whole audience was cheering.
Imagine Pearl Harbor in their hands. Lots of gas, presuming we don't blow it up.
The bulk of the Pacific Fleet in their hands.
Maybe a friendly local population? Promise of independence?
Could they have supplied it logistically is the question.
Japan was not going to win the war once our production kicked in.
We produced 24 Essex class carriers, 9 light carriers, and 150 escort carriers. And with the Essex class production was slowed beginning 1945.
If Pearl had been captured, I don't think we slow anything down.
The War would have been won; but would have taken longer.
Will it be in Sensurround?
They made a pond of alcohol to shoot the scenes involving the model ships. To make models look massive you use high-speed cameras and then play it back in slow motion. The problem is water looks strange in slow motion...its viscosity looks wrong. But alcohol in slow motion looks like water. Because the naval scenes were so central to Tora Tora Tora, they went to the trouble of constructing the alcohol pond.
I think Henry Fonda was in that one too...
I was a good movie...
how do they think they will improve on it ???
Walter Lord wrote the book for A Night To Remember, the movie about the Titanic with Kenneth More as the 1st/2nd Officer...
It would have been a bloody battle and very costly for Japan. No sure thing that Japan would have won. If they did win Hawaii it would be quite sometime before they could engage in another major battle. Japan just wanted to cripple the U.S. while they took over the South Pacific and bide it’s time. Japan’s plan was to take over control of the major resources in Asia and South Seas which they did. Then invade Midway, from there attack and invade Hawaii.
Invading Hawaii first would limit Japan’s ability to wage war else where for sometime.

I like the movie as well but it did have it’s drawbacks. The beginning scenes were taken from 60 Seconds Over Tokyo. Much of the battle scenes were taken from the movie Tora, Tora, Tora. Then there was that love story thrown in.
