I mailed Jim Robinson about this when it happened to me.
He responded, Make sure to use the SECURE LINK to log in every time.
That link is https://www.freerepublic.com
You can paste & bookmark it if you dont want to type it in every time.
www.freerepublic.com or freerepublic.com are not secure links, and can allow others to access your account.
PS, if you’re only recently receiving the Not Secure or Not Private warning, it could mean your account has been breached.
So, change your password, too.
Wonder why they don’t just do a 301 redirect from http:// to https:// so that everyone gets https all the time.
Easy enough to do with an .htaccess file.
It should at least be done on a login page.
If they have a SSL cert, it is a simple modification to the .htaccess file in the root directory to re-direct all traffic to https. On my car forum, if someone types in http://mysite... or www.mysite, or just mysite.com, it automatically redirects them to https://www.mysite.com. At least that's what needed on a Unix box running Apache. Not sure about Windows but probably something similar can be done).
That works, Thanks.
That’s lame. Do a re-direct Jim.
