muslim hijab next? :-)
Sikhs are cool
Just plain wrong.
5-1/2 years active duty during Viet Nam ‘68-’73).
Horrible. There was a reason to keep people in the military wearing short hair, no head covering and no facial hair.
Once you agree to one precedent others will follow. Standards and traditions fall.
Foot in the door, camels nose under the tent.
Further down the article: “In 2018, the Air Force granted an accommodation to Capt. Maysaa Ouza, who was allowed to wear a hijab, in accordance with her Muslim faith. In 2016, another Sikh man was granted a longterm accommodation from the U.S. Army to serve his country with a beard, turban and long hair after suing for discrimination on the basis of religion.” Who in the Air Force has been making these decisions?
So now the inmates are running the asylum?
I have always believed that wearing the uniform of these United States was an honor and a privilege. I say that if you can’t be 100% part of the team, then you have no business in being on the team.
Semper Fi!
Does this guy sing and dance?
Ive watched two Sikh war movies and they both had a couple of song and dance numbers in them.
Not bad dancers, just unexpected.
One of the bigger reasons why the military doesn’t allow anyone in the ranks to walk around groomed like a Bedouin goatherd - conformity and discipline aspects aside - is to make sure your gas/air mask forms a solid seal. A Grizzly Adams beard and Gene Simmons hairdo ain’t gonna help your situation if someone’s lobbing chemical weapons at you.
If it were up to me: Jarhead haircut, clean shaven, no jewelry, tats, piercings, heterosexuals only. No homos.
Bull crap! You enlist, your head and face get shaved, period! We can’t have bibles or wear crosses, but these guy can wear turbans to respect their religion? Don’t give a dam if they hate Muslims. Muslims will get their way next. They whole reason for shaving heads to uniformity. Now Jonny Quests adopted brother gets to fly high tech aircraft? Get him a carpet to dogfight for n.
That pesky First Amendment.
Sikhs served with turban and beards up until the 1980s when the regs against beards were renewed.
After that the the Army often waived the no-beard rules for Sikhs on a case by case basis.
In 2017 (after losing a lawsuit) the Army updated regs on grooming and appearances to make it easier to allow Sikh soldiers and Muslim women to wear religious coverings, and for Sikh men to keep their beards (they just have to ask)
Dey do wat dey do.
Shoulda went marines. Company, Corps, God, Country.
The issue would have stopped at Company.
Camel nose in the tent...
Got no problems with Sikh’s but....
Is he allowed to carry his religiously required kirpan dagger?
The rules were there for safety reasons.
I have been around the military (Army) since I was born in 1947. The first time that I remember an exception for a Sikh soldier was in the sixties during the draft era. The biggest issue that I recall about that dust up revolved around how to seal the protective mask. ho hum.
