Newfoundland is the large long haired big furry canine dog. Typically all black or Black and white. It is a member of the AKC Working Group. It was bred to be a companion dog for fishermen working in the North Atlantic.
Labrador, also known as the Labrador Retriever is a member of the AKC Sporting Group. It has an oily double coat that comes in black, yellow or brown. It has webbed feet and was also bred as a companion for fishermen working in the North Atlantic.
There is a stone fortification on the south coast of Middleton, RI that is attributed to the Vikings. It was there long before the Pilgrims landed at Provincetown, MA.
They have never been able to prove it. However, they know the English did not build it and neither did the Indians.
“Id love to sue Sweden/Norway/Finland for some reparations.”
Lycka till!
I think that he knew that he could get to the Spice Islands by sailing West and he probably knew about how far it was, based on the Viking sagas, or other interpretations of the Viking sagas. What he probably did not know, was that there were two entire continents in his way.
Look here.
Thank you, very useful. Also points out that Newfoundland is indeed an island.
There are a number of theories, as with “Viking”.
Nobody discovers anything when he is content to choose from a prepared list and then call it a day.
“It’s 5 o’clock, time to stop right here.”
Said no explorer ever.
‘mercans are the quintessential “can-do” people. The spirit of discovery is the spirit of revolution (revelation), the Spirit of ‘76, the spirit of America.
The Dutch slang name angle surely works into the big picture, because if nothing else, who can curse a people named “John Cheese”? Not going to happen.
God’s a funny guy!
Everybody’s going to freak.
Discover the unknown (and stock up on American flags in order to beat the rush)...
I still think the Newport Rhode Island Tower was built by Vikings...East Coast Native Americans has different DNA than West Coast Native Americans...
Thanks rdl6989.
If the Vikings had landed in a place with a milder climate and more hospitable natives...
Cortez was lucky to find a spot where he could land, plus colonization was made possible by their firearms (primitive as they were) which the earlier Vikings had not had.
Ive read that Yankee was originally Jankee. Jan was Dutch for John. Kaas Dutch for cheese. The British in the colonies used as a derogatory term for the Dutch. Essentially calling them Johnny Cheese.
That location is on the entrance to the St. Lawrence.
Yes, that is one of the stone markers I was referring to.
It is right near hotel Viking in downtown Newport, RI.
The Runestone markings show that the Vikings landed there. They think that the Narraganset Indians drove them out. That they never really established settlements this far south. There is also evidence in Bourne, Mass(western Cape Cod) that the Vikings passed through there on the way to RI.
There does not seem to be any evidence that they went south or west of RI. Apparently the Narraganset Indians were pretty much bad A$$es. I guess they were kind of like the Comanche or Apache of New England.
Runic writing was identified on the Newport Round Tower back in the 1940s (it has since weathered away, probably could still be found using different light spectra?).
