Hey Jude was the first release of newly-created Apple record company in 1968
It featured as its logo an image of an apple, inspired by a René Magritte painting
Hit single featured a whole apple and a sliced apple on either side of the vinyl
Some thought the sliced apple looked too much like a vagina for distribution
============================================================
The Beatles' smash-hit single 'Hey Jude' was almost never a hit - because the vinyl's apple label was dubbed pornographic, a newly-discovered letter has revealed.
The iconic song by the Fab Four was their first release of their newly-created Apple record company in 1968.
But it was nearly scuppered because distributors feared the picture of an apple cut in half on one side looked like a vagina.

You never really heard 'Hey Jude' until Yoko covered it...
To: Red Badger
I don’t believe a word of this.
The Beatles hype was always full-blown plastic bananas.

By the time Hey Jude came out the Beatles were more than just a force to be reckoned with. The idea that some record shop could have stopped it is ridiculous on the face of it.

I remember when Hey Jude first hit the airwaves. Our local AM radio station (WFIL out of Philly) played the song every hour. They even had a countdown to the songs next playing.

Cynthia was already well on the way to look like Mrs. Doubtfire but you'd think that would mean he'd leave her for Diana Rigg or something.
