I guess deer can’t hold their liquor.

Give em one shot and they keel right over.

Sounds like poor shot placement and a lot of luck with the first one.

In before ‘she needs more range time.’

Wonder what she could have done with a string of home invaders?

A 101 year old lady has the patience and skill to wait until the right moment and put the shot in a place that is fatal to both and you question her luck and shot placement?

The real news here is not that two deer were killed with one shot. I have two neighbors who have done so.

You simply need to have the patience to sit and wait until two are in a direct line of fire, and of course to be hunting in an area where deer are so plentiful that grazing in large numbers is everyday stuff.

The real news here is not the double kill. The real news is that a 101 year old woman has the determination and the good health as well as the steady hands to make the shot.

She must be one OK lady.

We need her to train police how to shoot.

"Sounds like poor shot placement and a lot of luck with the first one.”

Uh-huh.!

True(according to the story)She didn't plan for the second but then again, she's probably been putting venison on the table longer than most Freepers have drawn their first breath.

The first shot most likely went through the first deer's neck(bursting a major artery or vein) then traveled into the chest of the second where it lodged in the lungs or heart.

Interesting that she didn't like either rifle she was offered... Wonder what rifle she would have prefered?

Or a bigger caliber. There’s a thread about a Houston homeowner who killed 3 of 4 criminals and injured 1 and someone still bitched that he needed more range time.

I stand corrected.

I see from a later story that it was a complete accident.

In the case of my neighbors, they already had almost filled their bag limit and were assured of getting enough, so they waited for the right moment.

But again, the real news is that at her age she was utdoors with a rifle.

Perhaps you should read the article. . “Before long, a bigger doe came out and I shot. Then I saw two deer on the ground"

NO where in the article does it even hint that she planned a 2 kill shot. In fact, it sounds like she was surprised. Now I don't know about your neck of the woods, but I always try to place my shot where it will have the best chance of killing the animal, and that place is a chest shot. Besides, you are responsible for your shot and I don't really care to shoot through the animals neck, hopefully hitting an artery, and then worry about where my bullet may decide to go after that. That to me seems like a stupid thing to do. But, you hunt your way and I'll hunt mine.

I remember going on a deer-hunting trip with some co-workers many years ago. I'm not a hunter myself but was asked to come along to tend the campfire, cook the grub (and watch the beer).

Anyway, one of them brought just one shotgun shell with him. When asked why, his response was "I'm only bagging one deer on this trip".

Sure enough, he bagged his deer. About the only one on the trip that did.

A neck shot is almost always a kill. It is even better than a head shot that may or may not enter the brain cavity. On top of that very little meat is damaged.
