It's up to Kirk Cousins to prove he's not an $84 million bust
Yahoo ^ | December 12, 2018 | Dan Wetzel

Last January, Case Keenum threw 20 incompletions, threw two picks, and threw away what felt like a Super Bowl in the cold of the NFC championship game in Philadelphia.

The Minnesota Vikings saw their quarterback get outdueled by Eagles backup Nick Foles, dashing the dream of hosting the Super Bowl. Afterward, the franchise focused on a single thing – get a quarterback, just about any quarterback, at just about any price.

All the other pieces were there, they believed.

So they went out and got Kirk Cousins, for $84 million over three years, convincing him to come to Minnesota because of how close the Vikings were to winning everything.

I don't know about that. LOL.

Dan Marino played in one Super Bowl, and his Dolphins lost. And yet if I'm building an NFL roster with players whose NFL careers began after the mid-1970s, he'd be my starting quarterback -- hands down. He's the best pure passer of the last 40 years.

How would Cousins have done if he were a good QB. Notice Cousin’s TD to INT ratio is 2::1 compared to Wilson’s 3::1. Notice Cousins is getting $6 million a year more than Wilson for never even having sniffed a SB. He is quite simply not that good.

It’s Packer syndrome. We’re seeing that Aaron Rogers and Kirk Cousins are probably equals in raw talent. I’m impressed with the Cheathawks as someone called them....the coach paid his talented QB lots of bucks, let go some of the talented others, and has developed a new batch of winners. Pete should get Chucky’s contract as Chucky is waay over his head and should have stayed retired in the announcers booth.

What I see happening more and more are rookie QBs having great first years, but never really developing beyond that and quickly becoming a bust.

RG III was a perfect example of that. And the jury is still out on Dak Prescott.

Spielman should have been sent down the Mississippi on an innertube a long time ago.

Zyggy, wake up.

Aaron Rogers is a first ballot HOF-er and may be the most talented QB to ever play the game.

Just curious...who is the black guy that appears with Rogers in commercials?

Haven’t seen the commercials. But Aaron Rogers is the highest rated QB in NFL history.

He’s a loser this year...won’t even take his team to the playoffs and is responsible for the firing of the Head Coach.
Aaron took all the gold and said FU to the organization.

Interesting that you chose Wilson to compare him to. Keep in mind, Wilson was without a running game from the last year of Marshawn Lynch up until this year, and because of the spending on the Defense, no O-line player rated over 29th best in the league at their position. In fact, last year, Wilson accounted for all but 1 of Seattle’s touchdowns, and was their leading rusher. In spite of that, he lead the league in touchdowns, and set the NFL record for most 4th qtr touchdowns at 18 … 3 higher than the previous record. Yes, Seattle ended up 9-7 last year, but they were 8-4 at one point and suffered season ending injuries to Richard Sherman (game 10), Kam Chancellor (game 10), Cliff Avril (game 4), and Michael Bennett played the season with Plantar Fasciitis. How he was not league MVP baffles me. Even with Minnesota’s Oline, Wilson probably would have won, because he is actually a franchise QB, and won last year with a worse line. Sometimes, it is about the QB, because when you have a franchise QB, they can make up for inadequacies of the rest of the team. Cousins is not close to Wilson, regardless of what your stats say.

Brady retires and Belichick would have him on track to win the next three of ten Super Bowls.

The Vikings O-Line was terrible, just as Seattle’s O-Line was terrible most of this year (still have no idea why Ifedi is playing in the NFL).

Line I say about the Bungles year after year after year: There are a few jobs you can do lying flat on your back. NFL quarterback is not one of them.

Well guess what, not all QB’s are franchise QB’s...

Cousins...
James Winston...
Blake Bortles...
Tannehill...
Prescott is iffy...

The list is long...

And then you have teams desperate for a QB whether through injuries - Washington - or poor management...

McCarthy is a terrible coach who should have been fired years ago. He’s always been too quick to turtle. Give him a multi-score lead at any point in the second half (including the opening possession) and McCarthy goes to 3 runs and a punts instantly trying to kill the clock. The number of 14, 17 and and even 20 point leads he’s squandered, including in an NFC finals game against the Seahawks, is just disgusting. They should have fired him in the locker room of that game against Seattle.

What do Billy Graham and the Minnesota Vikings have in common?

Both can make an entire stadium stand on their feet and yell “Jesus Christ!”

In that Super Bowl Marino faced the Niners and Joe Montana. The Dolphins D didn't pressure Montana. Ball game.

Further Marino never had a workhorse back - Elway never won the championship till he had Terrell Davis - or a true game-breaking receiver.

But I agree, the best pure passer of the last forty years.
