After John Edwards was indicted, FEC auditors determined that the hush money he received from wealthy
donors to cover up a torrid affair did not need to be reported in the campaign's financial disclosure reports

his campaign's chief financial officer testified.

After three weeks of salacious testimony about Edwards' affair with mistress Rielle Hunter and the nearly $1 million

After reviewing the campaign's financials for four years, the FEC determined last month that money Edwards' aides
collected from wealthy donors Rachel "Bunny" Mellon and Fred Baron were "not campaign contribution[s],"

It will be surprising if that is what they want to spend their political capital on.

A weak impeachment should guarantee their next winner will get a similar treatment.

It become a sad state of affairs when future nominees/electees are automatically subjected to impeachment from the opposition just because they were nominated/won an election.

They could be setting a precarious precedent.

Edwards went to trial.
Jury was hung.
At the time, RATs were in charge of DOJ and they dropped the charges.

p.s. Edwards was found Not Guilty on one charge:

whether Edwards illegally received several hundred thousand dollars in donations from wealthy heiress Rachel “Bunny” Mellon to cover up the affair in 2008.

How many of his accusers in Congress have used our tax dollars to pay off their affairs? What about our military who are separated for at a time in war from a wife, fiancé, or lover. These punks in elected office are not gone a year from civilization like and marine or infantryman, much less any of our military. Do we really want weak kneed punks like any of them in our nation’s Congress? I say NO.
