That is why honest, intelligent, and well motivated people in government are vital.

No secrecy is as disastrous as illicit secrecy.

A government has to have certain powers to do its job of protecting the citizens. Those powers of course can also be used to harm citizens. Without those powers, there is a weak government that will quickly lead to anarchy, invasion by enemies, and takeover.

I agree that there is a legitimate measure of governmental secrecy about a limited number of things for a limited time.

However that principle has been operationally blown to bits for decades.

I'd like to try erring on the other side for a hundred years or so and see how that goes.

It takes me forever to get thru these threads because I read most of the links. I agree with you and jocko
Nobody is worried about secret things that need to be secret. But then there are those things that shouldn’t be. Those are the things we are concerned about Texin ma. Context counts.
