We're Leaving California! Which Western State is Best? (Vanity)
Myself ^ | November 15, 2018 | A Navy Vet

Posted on 11/15/2018 8:37:13 AM PST by A Navy Vet

Since California now has a super majority in the Assembly/Senate and can and will legislate any tax or thing their little Socialist hearts desire, we are now committed to leaving. We will be part of the exodus from the Socialist Republic of California. It's going to be a historical migration within our Nation, if not already.

Since we are both Conservatives, we won't be bringing any of the Liberal/Socialist ideals with us and would make good neighbors.

I'm in the Fort Worth, TEXAS area (Left Pleasanton, Kalifornia in 1984) before it got really F'n stupid BUT Texas (Austin, San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas are deeply soiled with Kalifornians) is heading too purple - sooner than later. Example, in the last election, Tarrant County (Fort Worth area) voted for the BetoRAT over Cruz. Scary!!

I'm old, more than just intolerant of the ignorant democrat's way of life, support our 2nd Amendment with my MORE than my fair share of material support, and may even some day be on the local news because of my more than fair share of support of our 2nd Amendment.

900K would buy a nice ranch in Missouri. Open carry here. Come on down we have plenty of ticks and chiggers to share.

Lubbock or Amarillo

If you are serious then narrow your choices. I’m assuming that is what
your goal is. A lot of inland areas will be vastly different from your
locale on the Pacific Ocean. If you can spend some time at a couple of your
choices. I’ve moved a couple of times and things aren’t nearly the same
as where you were. JMO. Good luck

You’re lucky. I’m in a state north of you and we don’t even have schools.

Other than bordering states, the majority of out of state plates I see here recently seem to be from California.

There’s nothing wrong with Utah that a couple more conservative out of staters wont cure. Your Mormon neighbors will keep watch over you. The University crowd in SLC needs pruning. But if it’s milder winters then St. George is the place to be.

However, if you want no state income taxes to attach to your Social Security might I suggest Alpine, Texas, a college town in the high desert of West Texas; a little winter snow, a little summer thunder, arts, cheap eats, cheap living and an Amtrak stop on the way back to California.

Maybe look at Omaha, Nebraska area? It puts you on the “eastern edge” of the west.

Low cost of living, can get a super-nice house for half of your CA home. Lots of restaurants, lots of golf courses, good family values. Decent sized airport. Cultural stuff.

As some others have said, it depends a little on what you like to do.

Idaho panhandle. Low taxes. Low crime. I love the entire state. If you insist staying in the west, Idaho is as good as anyplace.

There’s a ton of info on the internet about retiring in Idaho. Good luck.

"40 replies and not one person telling you to keep your blue state cooties to yourself!"

Apparently you didn't read the article and personal comment before insulting us. Listen dipshit, we are are as conservative as can be. My conservative bona fides can be verified by the owner of this site. Not only did I serve for 11 years, I was also one of the first activists for this conservative site, along with my girl-friend now wife.

Cooties? What, are you 8 years old? Do you know that the owner of this conservative site lives in California? STFU

Nevada and Colorado have gone to the Dark Side (democRAT). And Arizona looks like it might be going the same route, although maybe they just need conservative reinforcements.

Seems to me Idaho, Wyoming and Utah may be your best bet. Not sure about Montana - they probably need conservative reinforcements as well. Of course there's always Alaska...

By an overwhelming 73.8 percent to 26.2 percent, voters Tuesday approved a Second Amendment Preservation Ordinance.
The SAPO ordinance, listed as Measure 10-165 on the ballot, guarantees that no county funds will be used to enforce gun laws that are believed to violate the Second Amendment, including registration rules and limitations on semi-automatic weapons and ammunition.

Not so much a socialist county. As a previous post mentioned, the northern Portland/Salem voters cause all the socialist mayhem in Oregon.

If you want to keep a purple state red, I recommend Montana. If you want a comfortably red state, try Wyoming.

Scottsdale, Arizona will be the most seamless transition from Orange County. All the amenities you are used to, but far less traffic and many more Republicans. I haven’t regretted coming here from NorCal in 2009 for one second. :)

Seriously, North Idaho. davidb56 recommended Bonner or Boundary Counties. We live just south of there in Kootenai County (actually a second home). My Mom was born in Sandpoint, Bonner County, so I have deep family roots there.

Kootenai has become very crowded with the huge growth in Coeur d'Alene and Post Falls. But "crowded" is relative. At our house in the San Fran Bay Area (population 6 million), it often takes 75 minutes to go 12 miles. It doesn't feel like that at all in North Idaho. Even with the growth, you have these populations:

Your age can determine a lot about where you want to live. If you need health care, you want to be closer to medical services and you don't want to be on a remote back road. Medical services are very good in Coeur d'Alene and Spokane. If you like the outdoors and skiing, choose a spot near good ski mountains. Mt. Schweitzer in Sandpoint is excellent and had 400 inches of snow last year. The several other smaller ski areas around CdA and Spokane also had 400 inches last year.

You will be asked a lot "Do you hunt? Do you fish? Do you golf? Do you ski?" It helps to answer "Yes" to all such questions.

Schweitzer Mountain Ski Area
