I used to sail rented boats (I built one as a kid, but it sank on its maiden voyage). Have loved classic (one design) sailboats forever. This is possibly the most beautiful sailboat I have ever seen.
As an aside, my ex-wife's father (one of my favorite people in the world) sailed from childhood. He told me that going to boat shows was almost as good as owning a sailboat. You got all the imagery with none of the expense.
I think that watching a youtube video of a beautiful boat must be almost as good as owning it.
Anyway, here is a video of the Bojar. It is a work of art.
Enjoy.
Sailboat Ping! for Travis McGee.
His books, Airborne (1976), Atlantic High (1982) and Racing Through Paradise (1987), captivated me.
And David Hayes, an accomplished sailor and friend.
"Fair Winds and Following Seas" my friends. I miss you and carry many fond memories of the very good times.
Was gifted a Sunfish from my father-in-law a few years back. State of GA registration form wanted me to list the nbr of berths, nbr of engines, and nbr of bathrooms aboard. For a sailboat only a little bigger than a big surfboard!
Lol. Funny thing about sailing and drinking is that you can usually have a lot of fun drinking while sailing. But drinking while racing is a losing endeavor! Race, win, drink, then repeat.
My Old Man and the Sea is a favorite of mine that i havent thought about for a while. Have to reread it soon! Another of my favorites is Sailing Alone Around the World by Joshua Slocum.
Did you know of David Hayes? From Chester,Connecticut?
Not bad for a daysailer. LoL
Don’t know the man but i really enjoyed the book. There was a time when i dreamed about doing a trip around the Horn but eventually came to my senses. I was never a good enough sailor.
Lived the Life for a week.
Nothing like being aboard a Crewed Yacht with a Captain, First Mate, Cook and Stewardess.
David was a fascinating man. He founded the National Theatre of the Deaf centered in Chester, CT
He never lost his love and attraction for the sea. A true salty dog. :)
Weve owned a 40 ft sailboat for about 15 years. Enough with the sailing now. Lol. Looking around for a nice 41 to 43 ft aft cabin motor yacht. I want a full size fridge, a walk around bed, and a shower stall! Yep yep
I also want to be able to just turn the key and go.
Fantastic beachable trailerable sloop!
I grew up on a lake in northern Michigan and one of my close friend's family had a sailboat which he used to race.
Chris went on to get an engineering degree and subsequently worked for the America One Americas Cup syndicate........
Ive never read the Buckley books you mention. Will have to make a trip to the library this weekend. Thanks.
Well, there’s always fishing, which is uncontestably a thinly vailed excuse for drinking. What I mean by that, as an example, is ice fishing. Cheers!
In 1985 I singlehanded my 33ft full keel Hans Christian Sloop from Oxnard CA to Hawaii and back
17 days to get there ...... 25 days to get back
and filmed it , the morning of the 4th day a pelican was on the top of the mast..... I bellowed “hey buddy, what’s the news from the main land”
He crapped all over me
If I had a bow and arrow, he woulda been supper
Ice fishing!! We both grew up in Minnesota.
Peppermint Schnapps and Walleye. So now I’m suddenly homesick! Hahaha!
That’s what the Ricker 42 got us. It’s called a “fast trawler” because it has the trawler hull shape but can cruise at 14 knots without using too much diesel. We had two a/c units, a generator (so we could use the a/c at anchor if needed), a regular sized refrigerator/freezer, smooth-top electric stove and convection microwave oven. We even had a combo washer/dryer installed. It held two hundred gallons of fresh water, 400 gallons of diesel, TWO heads with vacu-flush toilets and walk-in showers, two staterooms with queen beds, a built-in wine chiller and 35” LCD flat screen TV. We were livin’ fine!
