Honestly I wasn’t freaked out that much by The Exorcist when I saw it... though that could be that I knew exactly what I was expecting before I went in.

House on Haunted Hill (1959) is still one of the creepiest horror movies.

Maybe if one is Catholic. But no otherwise.

At the time, many considered “The Exorcist” one of the best Catholic Church recruiting tools to come along in ages.

Not on my radar to be even in the running.
The progress of the story was (for me at any rate) entirely too predictable.
I have a limited tolerance for horror, and if I am to watch it then I want surprises in the story.
The Exorcist didn’t provide me with surprises.

I agree. I have twice watched it when I was high school / college age with a group of people. When it starts, people are laughing and talking. By the time it ends, no one is laughing.

I totally agree that Exorcist is #1. I would put Omen at #2.

Rosemary’s Baby makes my top five, but I wouldn’t rank it above The Exorcist.

Agree. Why? Because it had truth in it: demonic manifestation, and not just fantasy.
