Sugarsticks! There were comments in the last 24 hours - may have been on the last thread as I have skimmed back through the posts on this most current thread - pertaining to the Fibonacci Sequence. Anyway, I would like to share with them my seventh-grade-public-school-teacher enthusiasm for mathematics...

For quite a few years, I have begun the school year sharing with my students the Sieve of Eratosthenes, Pascal’s Triangle, and the Fibonacci Sequence. (My attempt to pique curiosity and encourage students to find and see patterns.)

For the end of the year, I created a mini-unit of study based on Leonard da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man (I did add a Speedo to a certain particular portion of the picture) and the question, “Is the ratio of your arm span to your height equal to one?” (Over the course of this activity and collecting the data for about ten years, the answer is yes.) - AND I presented this lesson to my principal prior to implementation AND he and the assistant principal (for some reason, I am compelled to state the ap was female) were unannounced present to observe my initial lesson.

My apologies to ALL for “hijacking” the thread with my comment. I am extremely enthusiastic about sharing the Fibonacci Sequence and an appreciation for mathematics with my students!!
