THE true nature of Bert and Ernie's very special friendship has been a hotly-debated mystery ever since the iconic children's show first aired in 1969.
Many were convinced the two lovable characters who shared a basement apartment on 123 Sesame Street - but slept in different beds - were gay lovers.
Then my community (Orlando, FL) was not one of the first to get Sesame Street. I remember it was about the same time that our NET station became a PBS station, started running programs that were in color, and it stopped signing off for the day around 3:30 PM.
When will they adopt a child?
They are based off Bert the cop and Ernie the taxi driver from the film, “It’s a Wonderful Life” in 1946. Ernie was married to a woman in the film. He was divorced in the alternate timeline in which there was never a George Bailey born. I don’t know about Bert though.
Our kids hated the show.
So now all the childrens's shows are twisted somehow.
IOW, they’re related children having sex together and getting paid for it. Way to go Sesame Street.
Same with Rowling making Dumbledore gay after she made a fortune off the books/movies/merchandise.
Thanks
I distinctly recall an official announcement in the 1990’s that they were NOT gay. I recall it because it seemed absurd.
Recruiting
It took 38 replys for someone to bring up Bert is evil? I expected it would be sooner
I don't know. He was a big lefty hippie.
“Why, oh why, do gays have to screw up everything?”
They can’t even get the basic Tab A to Slot B sex thing right.
They are psychologically broken and, regardless of the smiles, hateful to their core of everything and everyone.
Well, if you had a guys hand up your backside for 50 years, you might undergo a transition too.
Do they realize they aren’t even real people?
Jim Henson was definitely a misogynist which I picked up on as a child. Miss Piggy was odious and the ONLY FEMALE CHARACTER. There were many cool, differentiated personalities among his muppets, but all were male. I did notice.
Heaven forbid we allow children to remain innocent and not be corrupted.
Hippie Janice wasn't exactly a role model, but she came along after a few years.
It's pretty common for male writers to make their animal characters mostly male: The Jungle Book, Winnie the Pooh, The Wind in the Willows, Doctor Doolittle.
What about R2D2 and C3PO?
Right. Neither one has a d*ck.
