Same thing happened near me. A Older Woman was at the Grocery Store and when she was distracted a guy took her Wallet out of her Purse.
The guy ended up at another Grocery Store right after and spent $1,500, buying a bunch of Gift Cards using her stolen Credit Card.
We live in what people call an upscale area. At least it used to be.
We live in a relatively safe small city, but things are a changin’!
It amazes me how many open purses with exposed billfolds I see at the grocery store. (Right before my Target sprees. /s)
If anybody is within 10’ of me, I either have my hand on my purse, or don’t turn my back. Or no purse at all, and debit card in my pocket.
These days the question is - if we saw this and called the police to report it, would that be a hate crime?
