Africa in the hands of China
Modern Ghana ^ | June 2018 | Joel Savage

Even though Africa is much underestimated, the continent’s rich mineral resources always attract both developing and developed countries. China is now actively engaged in Africa.

Nearly 600 years ago, the first Chinese reached Africa during the Ming dynasty, a period of cultural restoration and expansion, on the coast of Kenya. The next significant arrival was in the early 1900's when about 60,000 Chinese miners worked on goldfields in South Africa.

Later, Chairman Mao Zedong sent tens of thousands of agricultural and construction workers to Africa to enhance ties with countries emerging from colonialism.

Trade between China and Africa reached a new high last year, totaling US$198.5 billion. It is estimated that about 1 million Chinese people are engaged in different sectors in Africa.

The strong presence of Chinese in Africa have sparked controversy, as America and Europe continue to accuse them of flooding the market with inferior or cheap quality products. Due to the rate of poverty, Africans rely on affordable products.

It seems they have found solution and satisfaction in Chinese products. To build a good relationship with African leaders China continues to support and giving a loan to Africa to enhance its developments.

We should let China have Africa. Its theirs for the taking. And when they are tired of losing their money in a decade or so, they will give up too. We should work on southeast Asia and India.

Yeah, if they thought the European colonialists were bad, wait until they get a load of the full brunt of Chinese tolerance and openness to "diversity".

There’s a saying: Africa wins again.

Africa always wins. (It doesn’t mean what you might think it means).

If China wants to enrich the latest generation of African tinpot dictators, it’s their money to spend if they want. Europe failed, Russia failed, the US never really got going well enough to fail. Let the Chinese have a shot.

It’ll be entertaining to watch the Chinese deal with African kleptocracy, savagery and tribalism.

China might be the only country ruthless enough to make a profit from Africa. China needs Africa’s resources. China, however, has no need of Africans.

I'm always surprised we don't hear about conflicts between Chinese and Africans in Africa.

Totally different temperament.

The Chinese are not known to tolerate insolence and poor work ethics.

Why is it Africans don't feel exploited by the Chinese as they did by Europeans?

They probably do, but abject fear is a powerful sound suppressant.

The Chinese are noted for their deep understanding of other cultures. Their eagerness to share their ideas of peaceful civil behavior has been a Hallmark of culture diversity. After all, Mao only wanted to share his wisdom...
