Seeking suggestions for best concealed-carry pocket pistols
dirtboy

Posted on 05/17/2018 2:31:51 PM PDT by dirtboy

.380 versus .32? What models? Also, best ammo. Looking for best combination of stopping power, accuracy and recoil. Not looking for this to be primary concealed carry weapon.

Since you said this:

“Not looking for this to be primary concealed carry weapon.”

I’m assuming you’re looking for a backup - perhaps ankle holster type.

If so the Ruger LCP is a good fit. Kimber’s Micro 380 would be good for more $$$

Ammo:

https://www.hornady.com/ammunition/handgun/380-auto-90-gr-ftx-critical-defense#!/

It has the ‘flex tip’ that prevents clogging (of clothing) a possible problems with hollow points.

bkmking...
I have teeny tiny hands (matching the rest of me) so the words “no recoil” always merit a bookmarking. :)

All excellent points. I'm not really much of a fan of pocket carry, truth be told. A pistol that size doesn't really print much more than a cell phone even with an OWB holster, and the latter is much faster than digging into yer jeans and hoping that the trigger doesn't catch on a loose thread with the muzzle pointed at Mr. Happy. Or keys, or whatever. For that reason, always a pocket holster. And don't carry anything else in that pocket.

Boy, it's a crowded market these days! If I could just win the lottery...

I bought a Ruger LCP2 380 as a pocket pistol and found carrying in a pocket not ideal at all. For one, it’s nearly impossible to get at when sitting, such as in a car.

I came up with a shoulder holster for it that fits between my T-shirt and outer shirt. Very easy to get at in the sitting position. It’s so small you can’t tell its there.

Regardless of what holster type, it takes practice to effectively get it out and running in short order.

S&W J-Frame revolver. 5 shots, very effective cartridge.

.32 is a toy - DON’T USE IT.

The S&W 642 is a .38 +P firearm. Add a Crimson Trace Laser Grip to it, and you now have a very accurate gun, unlike the base gun that has crappy, short sights in order to not snag on anything. The 642 conceals VERY well in a pocket holster (I use Uncle Mike’s, YMMV).

I’ve got a Kimber micro 9 and love it.
Like a mini 1911 that chambers 9mm.

I’m sure you will get hundreds of suggestions.. but if you are only looking for a belly gun, Bond Arms .410. Go with 00. Its only 2 shots but it packs a hell of a punch. Have fun deciding.

John Moses Browning invented the .32 ACP and the .45 ACP. He chose the .32 as his daily carry gun. Good enough for him, good enough for me.

“NEVER 32.”

Amen. Unreliable to save you.

A good .38 round made for personal defense, is pretty much as good as a 9mm, which is the default round for a real shootout.

If you need an ultra-light, ultra-small gun for your conditions, a .38 will do (Ruger LCPII, or S&W JFrame).

Otherwise 9mm

S&W .380 Bodyguard. Nice size and weight for carrying even while wearing a business suit. Built-in laser. Safe to carry double action. Disassembly/assembly is pretty easy. Downside is it has a pretty stiff trigger pull and it is small for the size of my hand, so it’s not very comfortable to shoot.

JMB invented the .380, also. Still chose the .32 for carry. My Kel-Tec P32 disappears into any pocket. With 73 grain FMJs, it will do its job quite nicely if you do yours.

.380 is as small as I would go. My ccw is a CZ 2075 rami 9mm.

I like my LCP I that I bought a few months back for $169. I didn’t go for the LCP II because it is basically single-action. The I is basically half-cocked all the time.

Most people...maybe all the people on this thread...have not pulled their weapon...and shot their weapon at someone.

I'd guess...I'm correct.

So what are we talking about?
