A National Assault Weapons Ban is the Next Best Thing – Quote of the Day
The Truth About Guns ^ | 04/29/18 | Dan Zimmerman

Posted on 04/29/2018 10:01:00 AM PDT by Simon Green

“Otto Van Bismarck once said: ‘Politics is the art of the possible, the attainable — the art of the next best.’ For those who are looking for the repeal of the Second Amendment, I would urge them to abandon that hope and look to the ‘the next best:’ the imposition of a national ban on assault weapons.” – Sol Wachtler in Keep assault weapons in the military [via timesunion.com]

I know what he was arguing. I was adding my own opinion of Heller and even that ooinion could be chslkenged as in the 18th and 19th centuries artillery, from naval cannon down to flatboat swivel guns were fou d in private hands, and the Vivil War saw innits early engagements artillery deployed by privately financed artillery companies.

I met a man from south Georgia a week or so ago. He had “The Right to Bear Arms” tattooed on one arm and “Don’t Tread on Me” on the other. He told me about his AR-15 rifle. I asked him if he bought it for hunting. No, he said “I bought it to protect myself from the government in case of tyranny”. He said he would die before giving up his firearm and I think he meant it!

AR-15s are not used by the military but let's be very clear about one thing ... the 2nd Amendment was specifically created to protect civilian ownership of military grade weapons. "Weapons of war."

Amendment II

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Here are quotes from two Democrats, before the Dem Party became the Hate America Party, that speak specifically to the premise of civilians using arms for war...

"By calling attention to 'a well regulated militia,' the 'security' of the nation, and the right of each citizen 'to keep and bear arms,' our founding fathers recognized the essentially civilian nature of our economy. Although it is extremely unlikely that the fears of governmental tyranny which gave rise to the Second Amendment will ever be a major danger to our nation, the Amendment still remains an important declaration of our basic civilian-military relationships, in which every citizen must be ready to participate in the defense of his country. For that reason I believe the Second Amendment will always be important."

President John F. Kennedy

---------------------------------------------------

"Certainly one of the chief guarantees of freedom under any government, no matter how popular and respected, is the right of citizens to keep and bear arms. This is not to say that firearms should not be very carefully used and that definite safety rules of precaution should not be taught and enforced. But the right of citizens to bear arms is just one more guarantee against arbitrary government, one more safeguard against a tyranny which now appears remote in America, but which historically has proved to be always possible."

Vice President and Senator Hubert H. Humphrey

The primary reason for the 2nd Amendment was to protect the citizen's right to own and use weapons of war to fight, as civilians, any threat to our sovereignty foreign or domestic.

The Second Amendment was written to regulate gun-grabbers, not to regulate guns.

Dan Zimmerman is writing from a pro-gun site. Don’t lump him in when he’s just reporting what the enemy is saying.

Thank-you for the clarification. “My bad,” as the twenty-somethings like to say. I should have realized that Mr. Zimmerman is on our side.

My nasty post still applies to that Sol Wachtler character.

I was one of those Trump voters in Northern Maine in 2016.....the Second Congressional District. The district covers 80% of the State of Maine and in area, it’s the largest congressional district east of the Mississippi river.

Candidate Donald Trump visited the area a number of times, as did his two eldest sons Don Jr. and Eric.

Trump won the district by 10 points and received one electoral vote. Hillary Rotten Criminal won the more liberal (and more heavily populated) First Congressional District in southeast Maine, winning her one electoral vote also.

The Hildabeast won the statewide vote by 2.9%, which gave her two more electoral votes.

Maine is a very strong area for the Second Amendment, with Constitutional Carry, Open Carry, private sale of firearms, etc.

Bloomberg managed to get a measure on the ballot in 2016 which would have banned the private sale of firearms, but the voters said NO. Bloomberg lost.

There are over 5 million AR-15s alone in circulation now. It is the most popular rifle in America. This does not even count all the other semi-automatic rifles which have cosmetic features like pistol grips, flash suppressors, bayonet lugs or the ability to accept “hi capacity” magazines. Even if they passed a renewed “assault weapons” ban....how the hell are they going to get rid of all those millions of guns Americans already own? There weren’t that many in private hands when the Clinton administration got that passed. Since it expired, Americans have stocked up on them by the million.

Common Sense Journalism Reform

Bad, and fake, Journalism destroys lives and careers every day. it time we remove the scourge of bad Journalism from our society. A Federal Journalism License is the only way to keep power of Journalism out of the hands of bad actors.

Perhaps the only way to teach the screaming hysterics in the Anti Gun Jihad the idiocy of their view is by turning around and applying the same “logic” to their most deeply cherished Constitutional Right.

The lib gun grabbers in a second amendment discussion frequently will ask “What militia do you belong to”? Their reading comprehension comes in to question at that point. The first part recognizes the need for and desirability of a citizen militia; the final part designates a pre-existing right which shall not be infringed. Nothing in the amendment says anything limiting the right to militia members.

It quite specifically says “the right of the people to keep and bear arms...” The possessors of the right are named.

I don’t find myself in the circumstances to debate with libs but is asked what militia I belong to I’d probably snap back “The lone wolf militia. A militia of one. Me.”

Like me I am sure your reading comprehension was quite sufficient to grasp it by grade 1 or 2. :)
