You have to think outside the box otherwise you’re to focused on what’s in front of you. You have to step back and look at the problem from “outside the box” to see the details.

It is easy to take jabs at folks for using the overused but it takes a wordsmith to come up with a better phrase. I kinda like some clichés. So don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.
