TV commercials that drive you nuts
vanity

Posted on 04/24/2018 1:44:29 PM PDT by Hugin

OK, what TV commercials really bug you? Make you want to scream at the TV every time you see them? Leaving aside the stupid dads and always white burglars, here's a couple that I see all the time lately...

Those stupid Nerd Wallet “Uhhh” commercials. Just hearing them say it, I switch the channel.

the kid who drove the car through the abnormally narrow drive through only bothers me because he says, “That’s very smart on YOUR guys’ part.” Who the heck says, “Your guys?” Bugs the CRAP out of me.

The one for Gardisil where a twenty-something looks into the camera and says “Mom, Dad, I have cancer”.

Then they show their life in a series of flashbacks to age 12 as the announcer talks about how getting this vaccine early in life can prevent cervical cancer later on.

The ad ends with a 12-year old looking accusingly into the camera and saying “Mom, Dad, did you know? Well, did you?”

Whomever came up with that ad should be taken out and shot.

You mean the “Let’s Groove” one?

I hate all the drug commercials.

That one where the hoe down band is singing, “Heartburn Diarrhea etc” I think if I’d been called to appear in that commercial I would have been convinced it is and elaborate joke to prank me.

i pre-record everything and skip commercials ... except a very few of the clever and funny ones ... most commercials are dumber than dirt, but a few are genuinely attention-getting ...

Anyone remember Bucky Beaver singing for Ipana Toothpaste?...”Brusha, brusha, brusha, here’s the new Ipana, brusha, brusha, brusha, it’s better for your teeth.”

We have one for the Xfinity internet service.

People lying to each other. Pinocchio, Big Bad Wolf, Chicken Little. But they all gang up on the AT&T guy cause he said they could get up to 15 meg but sometimes only get 10.

They play it 10 times an hour.

Hate most commercials. However, on a thread about something on TV, we seem to get all the medal 🥇 of honor posters who just need to tell us all how they gave up watching and how utterly great they all are. Of course I’m sure their names are written just before the pearly gates, so they will be able to skip ahead to the front of the line.

That’s probably a little before my time. But I do remember “You’ll wonder where the yellow went....”

And “.....a little dab’ll do ya.”

I’m also struck by how wonderful so many of the products and services advertised are that the people will just randomly start dancing, they’re so pleased.

Dancing dancing dancing. Once you notice it, it will drive you nuts, too.

Yep...I remember those too. As I read your comment, the Maxwell House coffee commercials with the percolator sound to music came to mind:

I wonder why so many companies advertise with mixed race couples now. I would think they would not want controversial ads. I know we don’t buy anything advertised like that. I would go out tomorrow and get a home security system if that company would advertise a black home invader in their piece.
