SUCH A GOOD BOY, MAX! He stayed with his 3-year-old human who was lost near Warwick last night while we frantically searched for her.

A deaf and partially blind old blue heeler named Max kept a three-year-old girl safe while she spent the night lost in Queensland bushland.

Aurora was reported missing after she wandered away from her family property at Cherry Gully, south of Warwick at about 3pm on Friday.

Max, 17, followed Aurora and stayed by her side as she slept overnight in bushland while temperatures dropped to 15 degrees Celcius.

About 100 police, State Emergency Services workers and members of the public resumed their search at first light on Saturday.

The girl's grandmother, Leisa Marie Bennett, heard Aurora faintly from the top of a mountain on the family property, about 2km from home.

She first found Max, who led her to Aurora, who had only minor cuts and scratches.

They don’t call the dog man’s best friend for nothing.

Max is 17. That’s like a 100 year old human.

Great dogs...love my Blue Heeler, Katie. She’s smart, devoted and loved to be rubbed and petted.
This is a wonderful story. So glad it turned out well for the little one.

They are an amazing breed. I have one who is almost 15. Took a spill in my backyard several years ago. She flew to my side and stayed right beside me until I could stand and hobble back inside. She wouldn’t leave me alone :)

Dogs are one of God’s greatest gifts to us in my view. The down side is when they die they will rip your heart in half. One of the worst days of your life will be the day you have to put your dog down.

Indeed. I had to put my first dog that personally owned as a adult down in 2013. He wasn’t my heart dog, but it took months to stop hearing him. My heeler girl is my heart dog. Her time is coming and in spite of having my 2nd heart dog (coonhound mix), I will be devastated.

A rather substandard performance as dogs go...

Now Lassie, Lassie would have built a telegraph system and sent a Morse code message to NewYork, to be relayed to England, to commission the building of a Special rescue plane that would have air dropped food supplies and materials from which she could have built a working cabin with electricity and running water... /sarc

My Son-in-Law is a Vet Tech and a dog was rushed to his hospital that had been hit by a car. He and the vet did their best to save him but he was too seriously injured.

Son-in-Law held the dog's head in his hands and the dog gave one last look up into his eyes as if to say "Thank you, friend; I knew you did your best" before dying. After that, he had to step outside the hospital to contain himself.

Great story, but typical of the
breed. Our Red Healer, Tripper,
is the smartest dog we’ve ever
owned. Amazing to watch catching
a Frisbee.

I guess you forgot about the cat in California who saved the little boy from the cowardly dog attack.

Never had a bird.
My son did for two months.
Dang thing wouldn’t keep quiet so it had to go.
Even with the cage covered it would raise hob.

Not sure I saw that one.
Still, it was a matter of the cat protecting it’s staff.
Can’t have doggies messing with the masters staff.
Just won’t do. :-)
