Embattled Fresno State Professor Randa Jarrar has a history of unusual remarks predating her recent outburst following the death of Barbara Bush. Fresno State Professor Randa Jarrar came under fire this week after she celebrated the death of former First Lady Barbara Bush on Twitter. “Barbara Bush was a generous and smart and amazing racist who, along with her husband, raised a war criminal. F**k outta here with your nice words,” Jarrar tweeted earlier this week. In a separate tweet, Jarrar said that the news made her “happy” because Barbara Bush’s death likely made George W. Bush upset. Additionally, Jarrar may have clogged a mental health crisis hotline when she jokingly tweeted the hotline’s number out to her critics, pretending that it was her personal number. Now, videos of Jarrar are surfacing, revealing a history of bizarre remarks.

Having actually seen a picture of the woman, it’s hard to imagine what that white friend with benefits might look like.

Those two gentle flowers on her left look pretty intimidating to me. If they’re representative of her “army,” I like our chances in the war she wants.
Tenure is probably an anachronism. However, to remove it will take a generation of professors or cost a mountain of money. The universities cannot unilaterally change employment contracts. Unless you are a taxpayer in the state whose universities offer tenure, what business is it of yours what the employment contracts look like? If it weren't in the advantage of the university to offer tenure to some faculty, it would not offer such an arrangement. In my discipline, it is cheaper to grant tenure to experienced faculty than to hire new faculty at current market rates. The university offers tenure as a token to keep us here rather than jump to industry where we can double or triple our salaries.
I used to joke to my sons that they should go to work for the Government because they can’t fire you and they can’t make you work. I guess that holds true for “Tenured” Professors.
You don't believe Randa Jarrar, do you? She is as confused on this topic as she is on Barbara Bush. Tenured faculty can lose their job. It's not as easy to cut them loose as non-tenured employees but not impossible either. Contrary to popular belief, tenure is not a semi-retirement situation. Most universities have post-tenure review procedures and chronically non-productive employees are removed. A colleague in my department suffered that fate a few years ago.
With the high cost of college tuition, our students need better than this motley crew of Protected Professors run amok.
Universities tend to attract loons like this but they are a minority. A loud and attention-grabbing minority but a minority, nonetheless. It's rare to find nuts like this in departments whose degrees are worth having. BTW, I know a couple of people who have taught at Fresno and they are nothing like this kook.
