Dallas Morning news ^ | Peggy Wehmeyer

I’m considering filing for divorce. On the grounds of infidelity and betrayal — and I’m heartsick. Don’t get me wrong, I adore my husband. It’s my union with an intimate partner of more than three decades, the evangelical church, that’s in trouble.

If Donald Trump is a mean-spirited bully in their opinion, wonder what their thoughts are about Simon Peter.

Indeed!!

Galatians 5:12
As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves!

And what about this OTHER fella???

Matthew 15:16
"Are you still so dull?" Jesus asked them.

Matthew 23

  1.  Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples:
  2.  "The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat.
  3.  So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.
  4.  They tie up heavy loads and put them on men's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.
  5.  "Everything they do is done for men to see: They make their phylacteries  wide and the tassels on their garments long;
  6.  they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues;
  7.  they love to be greeted in the marketplaces and to have men call them `Rabbi.'
  8.  "But you are not to be called `Rabbi,' for you have only one Master and you are all brothers.
  9.  And do not call anyone on earth `father,' for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.
 10.  Nor are you to be called `teacher,' for you have one Teacher, the Christ.
 11.  The greatest among you will be your servant.
 12.  For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
 13.  "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men's faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to.
 14.  Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
 15.   "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are.
 16.  "Woe to you, blind guides! You say, `If anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.'
 17.  You blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the temple that makes the gold sacred?
 18.  You also say, `If anyone swears by the altar, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gift on it, he is bound by his oath.'
 19.  You blind men! Which is greater: the gift, or the altar that makes the gift sacred?
 20.  Therefore, he who swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it.
 21.  And he who swears by the temple swears by it and by the one who dwells in it.
 22.  And he who swears by heaven swears by God's throne and by the one who sits on it.
 23.  "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices--mint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law--justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.
 24.  You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel.
 25.  "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.
 26.  Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean.
 27.  "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites!  You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men's bones and everything unclean.
 28.  In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.
 29.  "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You build tombs for the prophets and decorate the graves of the righteous.
 30.  And you say, `If we had lived in the days of our forefathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.'
 31.  So you testify against yourselves that you are the descendants of those who murdered the prophets.
 32.  Fill up, then, the measure of the sin of your forefathers!
 33.  "You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?
 34.  Therefore I am sending you prophets and wise men and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify; others you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town.
 35.  And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.
 36.  I tell you the truth, all this will come upon this generation.
 37.  "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing.
 38.  Look, your house is left to you desolate.
 39.  For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, `Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.' "

Mark 7:26-27
 26.  The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter.
 27.  "First let the children eat all they want," he told her, "for it is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to their dogs."

I would leave a church if the vast majority did not support Trump and supported Clinton instead.

It is not possible to be an active Christian and an active democrat.

The time for choosing is now.

I read it, waiting for her to come to a point which she never seemed to do. So here's what I've gleaned:

I joined a church that was once a headlight, pointing the way to personal redemption and social justice.

the story of a God who became human and vulnerable, gave up his power, and laid down his life for us so that we might do the same for others.

steering the church back to that original mission.

My conclusion is the she really doesn't know what the gospel is.

I waded through most of it. She is not a Christian. She worships Social Justice, and stayed with Christianity only so long as it was useful in advancing Social Justice.

I can see where she’s coming from when using an emotional argument. However, we didn’t elect a pastor, we elected a President. Certainly Trump has his flaws and his history. He owns his history, which is exceedingly rare.

We’ve torn apart the Access Hollywood tape enough to know that it was a bunch of hooey.

The Daniels story seems to be falling apart. There is no evidence beyond her say so. She’s on her stripper tour making money off of it. In three months, she disappears down the memory hole and he’s left trying to fix his image from a false and spurious allegation.

Evangelical churches are made up of people. We all have our flaws. Losing your kids to Methodist and Episcopal churches seems to be more of a failure of the family. Sure, they’re still going to church, but not ones that generally practice biblical faith. THe kids are flowing the faith of what’s happenin’ today rather than the faith of timeless scripture.

The article boils down to "Leave the Church ... cuz Trump!" Pathetic. The Bible shows many instances of God using men of questionable morale character for His purposes. If God were to use exclusively "perfect" men for His work on Earth, nothing would be accomplished beyond Jesus' span here. The article leaves me questioning if the author knows her Bible at all.

“Liberal” publishers keep drumming up “Evangelicals” for op ed pieces, in an attempt to reduce the “Evangelical” support for Trump in 2020. IT’S AN AGENDA PEOPLE!!!

"Mom," they'd say, "how can you stay in a church whose members defend a president who cheats on his wife with a porn star, brags about assaulting women, and constantly distorts the truth? Doesn't Jesus hate this stuff?"

[ . . . ]

"Why are you defending the bad guys," I queried her. "Don't you think Jesus would have been a prosecutor?"

"Are you kidding, Mom? He hung out with prostitutes and sinners. He's for the disenfranchised and powerless. If I'm going to follow Jesus, I follow him into the prisons."

Make up your mind. (BTW, why use the present tense verb on Trump when the accusations go back to a time WAY before his presidency?)

She’s on her stripper tour making money off of it

But, but - she's DONATING the NDA money to Planned Parenthood!

After she lived off it long enough to sail into not-so-spermy seas of an enhanced career and no-doubt buckets of secret cash from anonymous Democrat biggies who want to take down President Trump...

On Monday, a group of evangelical thought leaders who have not bowed a knee to Trump will gather for a private meeting outside Chicago, in hopes of steering the church back to that original mission.

Translation: We want to hand the Supreme Court back to the Left, so that we can have 5 depraved black-robed Lefty clowns order us to hand over our children to gang-rape by Sodomite pedophiles.

A couple of my problems with the article were lumping all evangelicals into one group. Evangelicals do not have a governing board and come in all shapes and sizes.

Then when she talks about the churches her kids went to she doesn’t mention the Bible at all.

I know too many parents that change their views because of their kids.

I respect the ones that defend their views to their kids.

Very wise thoughts.

Do you know of the ultra-liberal anti-Christian Jim Wallis? He’s the guy the libs all go to to get the feelings of liberal Christians.

I can’t remember ever meeting him but when I was a kid, I knew his dad.

A friend/mentor of mine, who is about 80 and who I’ve known since I was about ten told me that Wallis’s father really started to waver toward the end of his life, getting very wishy/washy.

He came from a very biblically strong traditional background and changed due to the influence of his idiot yet famous kid.

I think it’s pretty insulting tho say that working in a war zone is stupidity.

And besides, if an adult son or daughter is working in a war zone because of their mission, their mom is not going to be able to do anything to get them to abandon their objectives because of personal danger.

I’ve certainly learned that a parent can’t script-write or stage-manage their adult children’s lives.

"Peter turned and saw the disciple following whom Jesus loved, the one who had also reclined upon his chest during the supper and had said, 'Master, who is the one who will betray you?'

When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about him?” Jesus said to him, “What if I want him to remain until I come? What concern is it of yours? You follow me.”

OK, there are the verses you cited, in their entirety.

How is Peter being "mean-spirited"? How is he "lashing out" at John?

Just curious. I don't see anything like that in these verses.

I guess you would have to read them in context, realizing that Peter had just been rebuked by Jesus, and in answer to the rebuke, points at John and asks “Lord, what about him”?

And Jesus then tells Peter, “What is that to thee”?

Really, a good contextual reading shows Peter was lashing out at John. Maybe not in a “mean’spirited’ way, but in an evil world, anything is mean-spirited when examined with Christ as our measuring stick. We all fsll short.

In context, I don't read it as lashing out at all. At this point Peter knew he was forgiven, knew he loved and was loved, even placed in the position of "confirming the brethren" --- as shepherd of shepherds.

John was much younger than Peter. I read it that Peter may have been concerned in a brotherly (or even fatherly) way about whether John was going to be killed on the mission.

Oh for the love of God, it becomes another screed against Trump. Well I call bullshit that this is an accurate portrayal of this women’s life. Maybe she missed the passage about the log in her own eye. Or the command to be forgiving.

We had one of the worst Presidents share my faith, Jimmy Carter. The guy was a tool, as was GWB, but I don’t dump my faith over that.
