And neither knew of one another previously and both just happened to transfer from Occi to Columbia college at the same time?

How coincidental. You meet a student/friend at college and Then the two young men transfer from a small private college in Cali to an Ivy League university in NYC and discover they are COUSINS!
Phil Boerner CC ‘84 was Barack Obama’s roommate during the Fall of 1981. Both students transferred to Columbia from Occidental College, and lived together in a third-story walkup on 109th St. between Amsterdam Avenue and Columbus. They also hung out at Tom’s, the West End, and in New York’s bookstores and museums. After their first semester at Columbia, Obama was only able to find another apartment with room for one. He continued to hang out with Boerner, watching and talking sports, until 1985, after which time they exchanged letters. Boerner now lives in California, where he is communications director for a veterinary association.

only ten people are competing in the traditional way, grades and competitive writing.
Sort of like life: 20% pulling the cart for the other 80% Prepares them early to know who their masters really are...

Forty-eight editors are invited to join the Review each year. Twenty editors are selected based solely on their competition scores.
Seven editors, one from each 1L section, shall be selected based on an equally weighted combination of competition scores and 1L grades.
Three editors shall be selected based on an equally weighted combination of competition scores and 1L grades, without regard to section.
Eighteen editors shall be selected through a holistic but anonymous review that takes into account all available information. The Review remains strongly committed to a diverse and inclusive membership.
Applicants who wish to make aspects of their identity available through the Law Review’s holistic consideration process will have the opportunity to indicate their racial or ethnic identity, physical disability status, gender identity, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status.
Applicants also have the option of submitting an expository statement of no more than 150 words that identifies and describes aspects of their background not fully captured by the categories provided on the form. Statements will be considered by the Selection Committee only after grading of the Subcite and Case Comment sections of the competition has been completed.
Statements will remain anonymous and will not be evaluated for quality of writing or editing, nor will they be assigned a numerical score. Applicants are welcome to draft their expository statements before the competition week begins, and the prompt for the 150 word statement is as follows: “You may use the space below to submit a typed expository statement of no more than 150 words that identifies and describes aspects of your identity not fully captured by the categories on the previous page, including but not limited to racial or ethnic identity, socioeconomic background, disability, gender identity, and/or sexual orientation.”

Wow, that’s just awesome! Boerner saved the very long letters his ‘friend’ wrote him for THIRTY years. Kind of like the photographer from Occidental saved the black/white photo shoot of Barry the Stoner for three decades.
That zero was in Chicago in 1985 is common knowledge. That he had a position as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Chicago is also well known. That makes sense; Stanley Ann's uncle Charles T Payne had been attached to that university since the very early sixties, until his retirement.
Charles and Melanie Payne lived in Hyde Park...as did a number of other familiar names...one of which was David Axelrod

I graduated a few years before him and still have a whole scrapbook of pictures and programs with my name on them from those days. Am still using a plate nearly every day a friend made (thanks, Vicki W.! whatever happened to you?). I have old transcripts and was in year books. I did toss old love letters when I married Mr. b and my college roommate was my maid of honor and me hers. I wasn’t popular and never kept up with them but guarantee there’s waaaaay more people who would remember me than the 3 who claim to remember zero. Sure to be the same with most everyone. He is the exception.
You probably weren't that well known either but bet you could round up more than his 3 people who knew you when. Guaranteed that everyone who attended any of his so called schools ran to pull out their memory books and racked their brains to remember if they passed him in the hall.
Coincidentally, the cousin is about the only person on the planet who claims zero attended the school.
Wayne Allen Root, the esteemed conservative businessman, said on record he saw the claims that Obamatard was there WHEN WA ROOT WAS AT COLUMBIA...so he’s the best evidence.
Root STATED he knew almost EVERY STUDENT during that time and never saw nor met a half black guy on campus by that name.

I’m from Stanford and knew Chelsea Clinton was ahead of me by 4 years and knew every one of her teachers (one said she was an idiot)
