Created by strategically laid rumble strips as a way of livening up journeys across the flat landscape...
The tune is created when car[s] drive over the strips...
If hit at the correct speed - the 60 kph (40 mph) limit - the road will sing out the anthem of the Friesland region - a northern part of the Netherlands that has a distinct language and culture.
...[L]ocals say the musical road had created a never-ending cacophony that keeps them awake at night.
Last Saturday night the taxis were driving from Leeuwarden to Stiens and on the way back, they tried to go across the lines as quickly as possible and we had the anthem played all night at high speed...."

Could be worse. Could be “Never gonna give you up” by Rick Astley.
How about playing “on the road again”?
Soon the roads will be singing ‘Allah Akbar’.
A similar problem was created somewhere else, by Honda, making a commercial, and the strips played the Lone Ranger theme...................

That would make a great Rickroll if some wisecracking joker can reprogram what they play!
Been there. Done that.
Nobody drives the specified speed.
So, you hear the Lone Ranger Theme played at 78 speed?..................
Chong: One day I took some acid and played Black Sabbath at 78 speed.
Cheech: Yeah? And then what happened?
Chong: I saw
GOD!
“Why Don’t We Do It In The Road” ?
LOL! I was wondering if anybody would ‘get that’ reference!....................
America the beautiful played By the road

Yup.
Part of the problem was the strips were laid down to conform to a particular Honda car at a specific speed.
Any car that was longer or shorter wheelbase, or different size or type tires would give an ‘off-key’ version of the song...................I suspect the Dutch have the same problem...............
Some things don’t need to be invented.
Just wait until
someone finds a way to play other even more potent Earworms, i.e.
#1.”I’m Too Sexy”, by Right Said Fred.
#2. “Fridays” by Rebecca Black
or the infamous
#3. “It’s A Small World After All!”
You’d think they’d do “Radar Love” since Golden Earring is from Holland.
As long as they don’t play, “You light up my life” sung by Debbie Boone.
How much taxes were wasted on that project?
I remember that song very clearly from the summer of 1976.
Very nice, but you could not get away from it.
That was her only big hit. Then again, most singers never have any hits at all. Papa Boone refuses to get a facelift.
Looks sort of like Robert Redford.
Yakety Sax?
