Erie school district hands out baseball bats for classroom defense

An Erie school district has bought hundreds of new baseball bats – and it’s not planning a massive expansion of any sports programs.

The Millcreek Township School District outside Erie distributed the miniature bats to 500 teachers last week as part of a training program on how to deal with school shooters, the Pittsburgh Tribune reports.

Superintendent William Hall says it cost the district around $1,800 to buy 600 16-inch baseball bats, including some that will be placed in offices and other common areas. Hall says the bats are to give teachers a chance to fight back as part of a procedure with the acronym TROJAN: “Threat assessment; run; obstruct and barricade; join forces; attack; and never give up.”] [snip]

Let’s give a bunch of baseball bats to a bunch of unruly kids. What could possibly go wrong?

I don’t know, they might be good for throwing, especially if lead cored.

I think having baseballs would be better. Throwing something at a shooter is better when you have to deal with range.

Just don't have any Texas Rangers pitchers throwing them, they're sure to miss the target.

Whoever picked these out lives in a make believe world.

I can see the shop teacher making a steel duplicate for himself and painting it black.

Are there nothing but midgets
in that school?
I guess they could take a shooter
out by whacking his knees.

So, these alleged "weapons of war" that the left wants to ban are so terrible an assailant can be rendered inert with a wooden stick?

The Gun-Free School Zones Act (GFSZA) needs to be repealed immediately. Everyone can decide for themselves what solution to institute.

That’s not even a good sized Billy Club.
The other downside is all it would take is one juvenile delinquent troublemaker to snatch it from the teacher and then use it on the teacher.
Good intent, poor execution of goal.

This reminds me of two weeks back, when I heard some principal was providing full buckets of ROCKS for the teacher and students to defend themselves against any future gunman.
Too tempting for students to use against another student or perhaps a defenseless window pane.

If that is the plan, they should purchase full-sized aluminum bats! Stupid idea, propagated by stupid Academic Bureaucrats... FAIL! Wait for the kid with a psychosis to grab one and start whoopin' ass.

The Angels or the Dodgers?

Angels look pretty good, so far.

Apparently, what is now known as a "miniature baseball bat" is the same thing that used to be called a "billy club".

I guess "billy club" is not PC enough ths days - far more PC than some of the other terms I've heard to describe such an implement, but still not PC enough for today's snowflakes.

The Angles will NEVER be an LA team. They will always be the California Angels.

My beloved Dodgers are starting off slow this year but I expect them to taper off when the season hits full swing.
