As of April 2018, on referral from the Special Counsel Robert Mueller, he is under investigation by federal prosecutors into multiple matters, including bank fraud, wire fraud and campaign finance violations, relating in part to payments made to Stormy Daniels. His office and home were searched pursuant to a Federal Search warrant on April 9, 2018, by the New York Federal Attorney’s Office, although the Federal Attorney for the NY district recused himself from involvement.
