Hi all this is my first time posting a main thread so please excuse me if I do this wrong...
My daughter is getting married and moving to Houston area for husbands job on West Alabama Street. We have never been to Texas and know nothing about it but we want to get help guiding her to good areas to live. You guys (gals) were the first place I thought of for help and wisdom.
She is looking for a townhouse or small home to rent for right now and I would want her to be in a safe but economical area. Would really love your input and wisdom ...she is my first leaving the nest and now moving across the country. Normal concerns for her safety and welfare are present in our house right now so please be kind :)
If anyone has any suggestions for orthodontist office's she can apply to as an assistant that would be awesome also! Thanks so much!!
Sugarland area. no need to look elsewhere!

Sugarland is a good suggestion but her husband would have to drive US 59 every day. But that’s probably not any worse than any other commute these days.
Personally, I like the NW area. And the expansion of US 290 is almost complete.
Stay out of Houston. Sugarland, Missouri City, any of the suburbs.
Lake Jackson is also nice if she wants to drive a bit...
Which region of the US are they coming from, terart? Just curious.
Look at Walnut Bend area (Westheimer and Beltway 8 area).
You can also look up Stephen Wolters, DDS. He’s in that area.
I lived in Houston for 20 years... Katy, Sugarland, NW Houston... all good options. The closer you get to 610 the sketchier things become so stay in the burbs. There are pockets inside of 610... some really good ones. The Montrose area was up and coming back about 10 years ago... lots of condos townhomes and the like. It’s the art community. I can’t remember from your post if there were littles involved... if so then go to the burbs for sure.
Make sure that where ever she and her husband relocate, that the rental/purchase has never been flooded, and if the neighborhood flooded in Harvey, how close did it come to their rental/purchase?

West Alabama is a pretty nice area but the property values are high.
SugarLand area. Meadows Place, TX right next door. Economical and solid neighborhood. Might find something there.
Any place along the entire length of West Alabama should be safe, but many properties are older and would likely be more expensive.
Consider Meyerland/Bellaire. Close in, safe, and more affordable than inside the loop. Also consider area south of Med Center. Lots of multi-family housing with young medical professionals. Wide price range for housing, but does start very modestly.
Love my hometown but lately it seems like some of the neighborhoods mentioned on this are now high crime as well as out of city places like the Woodlands. Perhaps there’s a site you can pull up that keeps records on crime and the locations they deem safe. Just a thought........:)
Ask landlord *and* neighbors how the area fared during Harvey. Hardly anyone was affected by the storm, but for those that were, it was devastating.
I work near W. Alabama so I am fairly familiar with that area as well. It is near downtown and the Montrose, so you can run into all sorts of oddballs. In the downtown areas they are building condos like there's no tomorrow. A lot of them look pretty nice, but they are quite expensive. The burbs are for me so I can have a dog, mow my own lawn and sit out on the deck and enjoy a cigar.

That is absolutely the most important question to ask in Houston. The Heights is nice!
If they don’t mind surly old neighbors, Humble ain’t bad....
