When a dog rolls over, sticks four paws in the air and looks up lovingly, few can resist rubbing his belly and telling him what a good boy he is.
But a dog does not want its tummy tickled when it rolls over, and probably will not enjoy it with most having learned to tolerate this strange human behaviour only because their owner seems to like it.
This is just one of the things we are getting wrong with our pets, according to animal expert Dr Jill MacKay, along with shouting at a dog when it barks at the door and telling a cat not to scratch the sofa.

Yep, “Really????” exactly. This thread could use one of those Glowbull Warming Goebbels pictures.
It is a submissive behaviour, but I have yet to know a dog that doesn’t harass an owner into scratching his belly.

As far as I can tell, this is an assertion without any backing at all.
Ask a dog owner — dogs enjoy this.
YES! The dog wants his belly rubbed.
Whoever thought of “tickling” the dog?
I’ll believe that when they hook a dog up to an MRI and show me that the pleasure centers of his brain are NOT being activated during a tummy rub.
Until then, this just sounds like a journalist who needs to fill up space. One who never had a dog?
My dog loves it. She cant get enough.
Oh right, that dog in the top picture looks like it’s being tortured!

They don’t know what their talking about. But either way, it is one way. I’ve tried to convince my cats that if I rub their belly, they should return the favor. Never happen. I do get claws digging into my arm if I ignore them too long and not rub their belly.
My beagle walks up to us, turns over and expects a belly scratch. When the belly scratching starts, he starts moaning and his eyes roll back, as he must be in incredible pain. If we only knew!
Both our dogs like a “jelly belly” rub.
Oh B.S. Why does the dog roll over on his back and look at you with pleading eyes. And if you stop scratching his belly, the dog looks at you with an expression which says, Well? What are you waiting for?
My cat likes to have his belly rubbed!
Idjit. A dog will let you know when he doesn’t like something.
Did you know that cats purr when they’re dying? It’s true!
Who doesn’t love a good belly rub?
same BS as Global Warming.
My Lib sister sent me a thing on G Warming and ticks.
Didnt read it went to the last paragraph and line.
Its said humans have caused the increase in the tick population because we have caused the earth to warm.
The last line actually said, “We only ave our selves to balme”
I am sure no where did it mention no one has been tracking ticks they way they do toady so there is no proof.
Same BS narrative. Its our fault.
