I had an interesting conversation with friends, and was inspired to ask my Friends for their comments...
I first chose an American classic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzPLQpLAxc4 ~ Nat King Cole ~ Stardust!
I then chose the Irish Philharmonic Orchestra ~ Irish Philharmonic Orchestra ~ Holy God We praise Thy Name(3:36)
Finally, I decided on a blues classic:
(1975 Dublin) Thin Lizzy (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=261uidoVOVk

Stardust is one of my favorite tunes, and that is a great recording, but I am partial to Artie Shaws version:

Artie Shaw created a stellar arrangement, t y 4 posting an ancient memory>>>
Satisfaction? First song on my travel play list
And talented.........
Yeah, that “Telegraph Road” solo is fantastic — and, oh boy, the “Wrecking Crew” sure were, too.
RIP, Glen.

"It's My Life" - The Animals
"School's Out" - Alice Cooper
Of course, I may have a different list by Tuesday.
Phil Lynot and the rest of the Thin Lizzy band. Excellent group.
Saw them play at the Philadelphia Palestra in 1978 or 1979. Opened for Queen, which was another great act, but Thin Lizzy stole the show with Boys Are Back In Town.
Too late now, but if your friend was smart, she could have tied it to "Through the Looking Glass", and only do hippo-related things on Thursdays.
I'd have to go with Bach's Brandenberg Concerto #2, First Movement, if you're being picky.
Glenn Millers In The Mood.
I'll leave #3 open...
A great case could be made for “Satisfaction” and “Rhapsody in Blue”. I’m throwing in “At Last” by Etta James. Talk about soulful, winsome, hopeful, relieved.
If the OP had asked for best songs performed instead of recorded, I'd have said Glen Campbell's "Back Home Again in Indiana."
A Day In the Life - Beatles
Hung Up on a Dream - Zombies
Mercy Mercy Me - Marvin Gaye
Rhapsody in Blue, by George Gershwin, as performed by Oscar Levant (piano)
An American in Paris, by George Gershwin, as performed by Oscar Levant (piano)
Sing, Sing, Sing (With a Swing), by Louis Prima, as performed by the Benny Goodman band, with Gene Krupa (drums)
nice choices
My doobie and carpenter picks were for their toe-tappin, happy lilts.
Actually, it is a very cute “novelty” song.
I was just being a PITA because the topic is very subjective.
Best “song/performance” is in the eye/ear of the beholder.
Moon River
Boogie Woogie Bugle Boys
Jump
I love too many to have favorites, but according to Rolling Stone, the No. 1 rock song of all time is...
Like A Rolling Stone.
Convenient, no?
