Britain 'four meals away from anarchy' if cyber attack takes out power grid
yahoo ^ | 03/17/2018

The warning comes weeks after the Defence Secretary, Gavin Williamson, said Russia had been spying on the UK’s energy infrastructure and could cause “thousands and thousands and thousands” of deaths if it crippled the power supply.

America this week blamed the Russian government for a campaign of cyber attacks stretching back at least two years that targeted the US power grid.

Energy and security experts say a cyber attack is one of a number of so-called “black sky hazards” that have the potential to knock out power for days, weeks or even longer across large parts of a country, or even continent.

As well as a cyber attack, other black sky risks include extreme weather, an electromagnetic pulse caused by a nuclear detonation in the atmosphere and terrorist attacks on key substations or transformers.

One of the most destructive risks would be a powerful solar storm. A previous storm in 1859, now known as the Carrington Event, caused so much geomagnetic disruption that telegraph operators reported sparks bursting out of their machines. Such a storm today could cause havoc to electrical systems.

Lord Arbuthnot of Edrom, a former chair of the Commons defence committee who now advises the Electric Infrastructure Security Council, said modern life had complete reliance on electricity.

We haven’t seen this much anti-Russian rhetoric since Joe McCarthy’s days. Back the, though, Russia was communist. Thanks to Ronald Reagan, it no longer is. In fact, its Christian Church has been reestablished.

We haven’t seen this much rhetoric against a Christian Russia since the days of Lenin, Trostky and the Bolsheviks. Today’s neocons are acting like their heirs, urging war against post-communist Russia.

Am I missing something? Were there massive power grid outages in the last two years?

This stuff is so weird. I think we should fear China far more.

Gotta distract from the muzzies and their ####ing up of W. Europe.

If Russia is up to no good, which is CERTAINLY possible with Putin, meet it head on and take appropriate action.

I dont recall in the past being told, though, of every sinister move a country is making against us.

It is certainly being used for complete propoganda purposes, true or not.

Also, Putin knows a Christian Russia is the only way Russia will survive. Perhaps people will start having more than one kid and morality will come back and the native population will grow.

Or they are in a lot of trouble.

are the MSM trying to tell us that modern urban Brits don’t know how to ride out shortages? I’m not sure how many deaths were caused by the WW2 blackouts - likely many more from the doodle bombs than the dark. And surely their mums and grands taught them about WW2 rationing. How all those jars of jam, flour, salt, lard and baking soda, tinned milk and meat and smoked sausages, etc. set aside for a rainy day came in very handy.

The Brit of today is not the same that faced Hitler and won the Battle of Britain against extraordinary odds. I think most of society in general is doomed upon the SHTF event.

If our power grid got taken out, I’d just go to Home Depot and buy a generator, and then stop for gas on the way home.

Wow! What a massively electrified society they had back then.

Best gas up the day before.

While the pumps are still operating.

Completely agree. Now comes the hard-part: How do you 'prove beyond doubt" that Russia committed an act that didn't actually come to fruition? And then get the public to support aggressive counter-measures a step or 2 removed from war? If Obama were making this claim we'd be justifiably skeptical. But what if it's Trump? I don't see a public consensus given the political division in this country.

Prepper Ping - Electrical disruption/ power loss (temporary or long lasting)

Are you prepared ?

Are you prepared for this ?... candles, kerosene, batteries ?
Venezuela is currently rationing power- as episodic as it is,.. and the power is totally unpredictable. Sometimes they are only getting 4 hours of power per day.
Our grandparents, especially in rural areas, were prepared for power loss and used 'spring houses' and other accommodations.
Today were are faced with vulnerable power and electrical sources that go down from hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, mudslides, and other natural disasters.
Can you and your family survive a power loss for weeks, or even months, as they have had to do in Puerto Rico ?
Or, will you have to await FEMA, the Red Cross, or another humanitarian organization ?

Exactly. The communist intellectuals who fled Nazi Germany quickly regrouped in UK and US. They developed cultural marxism and cultivated a vast array of new social classes to pit against one another. Putinist Russia is an embarrassment to them and they seek again to foment revolt in Russia and restore Leninism for global domination.
