At South by Southwest this week, actor and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger argued that every single product made using fossil fuels should come with a warning label due to climate change. He suggested that oil companies are killing people by abetting the burning of fossil fuels, and that all products using fossil fuels should be marked as associated with hazards like tobacco. “We’re going to go after them, and we’re going to be in there like an Alabama tick," Schwarzenegger said. "Because to me it’s absolutely irresponsible to know that your product is killing people and not have a warning label on it, like tobacco. Every gas station on it, every car should have a warning label on it, every product that has fossil fuels should have a warning label on it.”

Wouldn’t that be an indefensible waste of trees? Unless the labels themselves are made of fossil fuels. Then it’s just a waste of fossil fuels.
Does that include anything that was made on equipment powered by fossil fuels? The warning label concession for this crap would be lucrative.

For what I have seen all my life, every product that has fossil fuels does have warnings on it. He must be losing his mind.
What if the ink used to print the warning is also a petroleum product? Hoe far down does the stupid go?

In a sane world, this would be true.
But, many people will read those labels and DEMAND that a new energy source be found. These people believe that a 40w solar panel or a 100w windmill can power a house. They believe that pedal power makes good sense, even when they couple that with a desire for people to eat less calories. In schools, physics is taught to nerds and the liberal arts types blissfully say, “well, I’m not a physics expert” as they dismiss any attempts to explain energy to them.
Schwarzenegger is talking to those ignorant people when he calls for these labels. Don’t underestimate the stupidity of the mob.

Everyone reading my comment, please look around the room you happen to be in. Now identify everything in that room that was not made from petroleum products, was not made using petroleum energy, or transported from the factory to the store, from the store to your home all using oil?
