.., Politicized Review Process. The TIGER grant program has come under fire for putting politics ahead of technical concerns.....The pedestrian bridge that collapsed at Florida International University's Miami-Dade campus today, killing several people, was funded with $11.4 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Transportation Investments Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) program. The TIGER program has come under repeated fire for awarding money based on politics rather than merit......Members of Florida's congressional delegation publicly lauded the TIGER award to FIU. "Thanks to this TIGER funding, FIU students will be able to walk from their student housing to class through a pedestrian bridge across Southwest Eighth Street," Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-Fla.) said in 2013. "More jobs will be created in our community thanks to this grant, and I look forward to celebrating the project's success with everyone in South Florida."

Doesn't it look like it would have just been easier to cross at the light?
Yeah - the “I” is actually Obama giving America the finger as he rides off into the sunset saying “FU”.
Hmm, time for the ABC-UTC program to shut down if this is what they do.
My first guess was this project’s main goal was to enrich politicians and their friends.
FDOT was on site at/around the time of the accident, per local media. I’d say the FL legislature also has some explaining to do.
“This project is an outstanding example of the ABC method,” said Atorod Azizinamini, the center’s director, in a press release on Saturday.”
“Atorod Azizinamini”?? What were Atorod”s real engineering qualifications, or were they same AA qualifications Moochelle Obama had to practice law?? And, by the way, did he graduate for a Purdue University Engineering Education Department approved “non-rigorous” engineering “education” program.
He’s still alive?!

Obama Administration Sends $100M in Stimulus Aid to 43 Transit Agencies
In this day and age, we can’t even build a decent steel bridge?
This reeks. Lots of political types and contractors diving for cover.
Always Be Collapsing?
Great story! Love to have a cite.
See, if those guys weren’t working on building the wall this wouldn’t have happened.
I heard it in an insurance course from the teacher back in the early 90’s. The same teacher that taught me that the health insurance crisis (it’s kinda funny, but people thought it was bad way back then) was caused by the federal government during the WW II wage freeze, which incentivized employers to offer free health care to employment candidates, since they couldn’t offer higher wages.
Completely unsurprising.
The key is that it supports “economic development”. Only speaking for Washington State, but all of our transportaction grants do not give you more than 2 points on the funding application for development. Most are for safety related or congestion relief.
Debbie Wasserman must really loathe her District!
The design was supposed to be bridge supported by hanging on cables from the central support.
Idiets put up one half of the bridge, made of concrete, made to hang, but not supported over the span.
It collapsed under own weight. They needed to support it while the other half and center support tower is raised and cables ran to the anchor points on the bridges.
PC smart ass engineering, funded by tax dollars and kickbacks to politicians.
FRee advice from FRengineer.
Yet another damaging feature of Barry’s reign. It was a give away to Democrats in South Fla. Who inspected this thing? Who decided it was safe to drive under it? Only question I can answer is Who goes to jail over this? Answer NOBODY.
