Shaquille O'Neal's solution for safer schools is more cops; says gun ban not the answer

Shaquille O'Neal is a longtime friend of the police. He's running for sheriff in Georgia in 2020, he was named an honorary officer after completing an unofficial police academy program in 2016 and he's remained outspoken on police rights. With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that Shaq's answer to school shootings is to make schools safer by placing cops around them, not by banning guns.

"The government should give law enforcement more money," he said on WABC Radio on Wednesday, via ESPN. "Give more money, you recruit more people, and the guys that are not ready to go on the streets, you put them in front of the schools. You put 'em in front of the schools, you put 'em behind the schools, you put 'em inside the schools, and we need to pass information. ... I would like to see police officers in schools, inner cities, private schools."

Probably a better solution than arming teachers.

Don’t forget that there are some of us teachers who are Conservatives who WOULD make the schools safer places if we could carry...

He is a good guy. His parents were in the military. He left LSU early (obviously) but promised his mom he would get his degree, so he returned later, got his degree from LSU then went on to get a Master and PhD as well.

It’s good to know where he stands on this. He’s going to be running for sheriff in the county where I live and might just get elected.

I saw him in a packed gun store in Woburn MA once. It was during an Obama scare and everyone was shoulder to shoulder waiting. He was looking at pistols, dont know if he bought anything. Everbody there was giving him space and not talking to him.

Like to see one of those wormy, little pencil necked lefty talking heads try to call him a sell out to his face.

The Florida shooting showed that cops are NOT the answer. They don’t have to respond, and some departments say don’t respond.

“Probably a better solution than arming teachers.”

I think arming the teachers is better because it would save a tremendous amount of money, and you could have multiple gunholders in a given school.

“Arming teachers” is an understatement. They would have to be willing to do it and be trained. Their weapons would be gun safes.
