Cancun has a major murder problem
NY Post ^ | March 12, 2018 | Kate Schneider

While Cancun is known for its spectacular white sand beaches and turquoise waters, the tourist hotspot is in the grips of a brutal and growing crime wave that threatens to leave it a ghost town.

Located in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, things are so bad in Cancun that the murder rate has doubled in the past year — with 169 killings in the first half of 2017.

Doesn’t sound like a very safe place for Spring break

Anyone who would vacation in Mexico deserves to get whatever happens. Called Darwinism.

Actually it should be promoted for Spring Break, just think of how the influence of a hundred thousand or so of our super smart, sensitive and tolerant college kids could have on their society as they preach love and understanding to the Cartels.

What is amazing is how fast all these places have turned from being a ‘safe’ place to being a ‘deadly’ place...Have not been to Cancun but the location I’ve been watching is the southern part of the Baja… San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. As an example, Cabo San Lucas had 49 homicides in 2016 and 286 for just the first 11 months of 2017. Bottom line is that when folks tell you some location is ‘safe’, that might have indeed been the case a week/month/year ago but today it might be absolutely the opposite.

“While it’s the third shooting on the beach in Cancun this year, tourists will struggle to find any information about the shootings online.

So why are these crimes kept so hush-hush?

“We’ve been told that local politicians here have put the press under pressure not to report violence in this area, because if the tourists are scared away from here, it will be an economic disaster not only for Cancun, but for Mexico.””

Sounds just like the Inner Harbor in BALTIMORE, and probably a decent number of other US cities. If the crimes aren’t disclosed, they never happened, and whitey just keeps coming back...and getting rolled.

Ixtapa on the Pacific coast was our favorite winter warm-up spot for years.
Not any more.

We used to vacation in Cancun. Felt safer there than in our town. Haven’t been there in many years now but sad to hear this.

Send the east coast, mid west and west coast college snowflakes to Mexico to declare their love for the Mexican illegals in our country!

Cancun is basically a Island, they need checkpoints when entering to keep the riff raff and criminals out. Same thing in Jamaica, the people/beggars have ruined the experience. If you want tropics, try Key West in AMERICA or some of the Bahamian islands.

We visited Cancun for a week many years ago.
Took a bus trip to Chichen Itza. Survived a tire blowout at 80 mph on a gravel highway.
Came back the next day and went snorkeling. 10 or 12 drunken Canadian nurses joined us. One young lady fell off the walkway getting off the boat.

I think I can guess but regardless, with your screen name I suspect you have more insight than me!

You mean like Las Vegas?

The whole country is over the edge. A relative of mine (not too close) is going to Mexico for a month. As far as I’m concerned she made her bed, and gets to sleep in it, so if I get some panicked phone calls for money because her ears are being cut off - well, that’s life (or death).

Didn’t know that about Vegas, but not surprised - crossing that off my list (not that it was a very high priority).

Thanks for the info!
