all points are valid and all things have value except those of the hetero/Caucasian/Christians...

it's like giving that award last year to the black queer movie of no redeeming social value whatsoever, but it was black and queer so that was all that was required

My husband and I actually enjoyed a movie last night, A Quiet Place. It’s a thriller with aliens, but the main cast is a nice family. There’s also no cussing or sex.

Best movie we’ve seen in years.

The Martian was on TV on Friday, and that was a great movie too.

I’m actually looking forward to seeing “The Death of Stalin”, it’s the first time in a long time I’m actually excited about seeing a movie.

Think of the academy award for this stupid movie as affirmative action for it’s Mexican producer/director/screen-writer Guillermo Del Toro, because that’s all it is.

Bored one day; wife and I went to see this; worst film I’ve ever seen!

You must not have seen The Incredible Shrinking Woman with Lily Tomlin.

Wait. Did this POS win the golden eunuch for best picture last night?

All you need to know is that the writer/director/producer is Mexican.

Affirmative action uber alles.

Exodus is gone, Covenant is sort of working again, but Genesis Reborn is working better.

Hollywood has devolved into an enclave of hedonistic debauchery. Its epicureans are desperately seeking some sort of meaning in their lives. They have rejected God and as Chesterton observed, they will believe in anything. The movies, silly navel gazers, are terrible. However as long as the industry remains overall profitable ( the world apparently will pay to view comic books turned into movies) the pretense, posturing and decadence will continue.

theater stuff is now nothing but SJW propaganda and/or mindless teen dreck. same for the major broadcast networks.

i haven’t been to the theater in over 10 years and don’t plan to ever go again.

truly interesting and imaginative entertainment has moved to original cable and streaming series.

Oh, and when contemporary movies hit streaming they’re no better than they were when released into the theaters, so I don’t watch them there either,

buy yourself a roku box and subscribe to netflix and amazon prime, and you and your wife will find PLENTY of great things to watch, just no movies that have been made in the last 15 years ...

Don’t worry, you weren’t on any ping list. I won’t include you in any future posts, you were simply on this thread.

The 14 theater megamovie place near us went out of business recently and we didn’t know it. Big flashy place in a rich Liberal city. We haven’t been to a movie theater in years; mostly watch Netflix and Amazon. Movie like this apparent turd are the reason. Why spend $32 plus snacks to drive to and then sit in a movie theater enlivened by people in sleeveless Ts who are on their phones rather than watch in comfort at home?

The “Academy” loast any remaining credibility when they ignore “The Passion”.

That was the single best movie ever made from every technical standpoint.

I am not talking about whether you like it for entertainment or not- I am talking about the film-work. It was extremely well written, beautifully photographed, technically perfect in every way.

I am only talking about the production values. I think The Godfather was similarly well made. And a few others.

But when they seemed to purposely ignore their reasons for being- because they hated the subject matter- they lost whatever little credibility that they had left.

I know exactly what you mean...I think I never watched again after they gave “Shakespeare in Love” the Best Picture over “Saving Private Ryan”.

As another poster on this thread accurately pointed out, it now seems to be how many virtue signaling check boxes a movie can cover that determines “Best Picture”.

"...there is also a B&W musical sequence of the Creature and the mute woman dancing together like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers..."

That was another point in the movie where I paused it to look over at my wife to see her reaction...

They could do great things with CGI today if they were inclined to do so, but they seem content with making things explode.

And an actual plot with a memorable script? Not in today’s Hollywood.

I am enjoying seeing older movies I never had the time or inclination to watch. Favorite all time movie? “The Best Years of Our Lives”...:)

Same here.

The last movie I went to that had a lot of people in it was “Quantum of Solace”, and I had a row of 12 year old girls in front of me who spent the whole movie with their phones on yakking with each other. I politely asked them to stop, which they did.

For about 90 seconds.

The “Paul, Apostle of Christ” movie theater was disgusting, when I sat down I had to throw trash on the seats and cup holders onto the floor.

Yeah. A 55 inch flat screen is fine with me.

"...Hollywood has devolved into an enclave of hedonistic debauchery..."

The movie started out with a bathtub masturbation scene. Good grief. I thought "Why on earth did they add that? What could that possibly add to the movie?

I guess they thought it made the movie "edgy".
