Deploy or find something else to do (as a civilian)
Military Times ^ | 2/21/18 | Mattis

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis used tough terms to back up the new deploy-or-get out rules, saying those held back for administrative reasons place an unfair burden on troops who routinely serve multiple combat tours.

"You're either deployable, or you need to find something else to do. I'm not going have some people deploying constantly and then other people, who seem to not pay that price, in the U.S. military," Mattis told reporters traveling with him on his way home Saturday from a week-long trip to Europe.

"If you can't go overseas [and] carry a combat load, then obviously someone else has got to go. I want this spread fairly and expertly across the force," he said.

Defense Department officials have said there will be numerous exceptions to the new rules forcing out service members unable to deploy for 12 consecutive months -- including waivers for those wounded in combat and those who are pregnant -- but Mattis is firm on the overall concept.

Sec. Mattis - end the P.C. culture in the military or find something else to do.

including waivers for those wounded in combat and those who are pregnant

End all pregnancy waivers, especially the ones where she conveniently becomes pregnant shortly after deployment is announced. Treat it the same as guys who deliberately render themselves non-deployable, and discharge with no benefits.

That’s one way to get the transgendered (mentally ill) out of the military.

stand permanent ASDO watch until he had his 20 years.

If you are keeping them, sounds like a good job for him.

When I was in the AF in the 80’s you were either world wide deployable or getting separated.

I know a Vietnam era career special forces guy that retired an E9. Never went to a combat zone, not even up north in S Korea. A very arrogant over bearing person.

Completely concur. We had a gapped billet on a DDG for 10 months - one month prior to deploying along comes our long-awaited FC1 Harpoon Weapon System tech. Three days later she was gone due to pregnancy. There is absolutely no penalty for people pulling this stunt.

There could also be a rule where missing a deployment, even if a waiver is gotten, MUST be made up by the end of the enlistment period, or the person will be deemed ineligible for reenlistment.
