Last weekend, one of the buzzier stories out of the Olympic ladies’ figure skating short program competition was one you might call … surprisingly surprising. The French figure skater Maé-Bérénice Méité made headlines: for the fact that she skated to a Beyoncé medley, and even more so, for the fact that she did it in pants.

Oh,please….don’t give our skaters any ideas about gender issues in costuming. We do not want to see Adam Rippon in a sequined skirt.

Partners dance routine if they both showed up in tuxedos would freak everyone out. But they would make major headlines. A Marlene Dietrich moment. Boom

Wearing dresses differentiates women figure skaters from men.

This is a good thing.

We owe it all to Sonja Henie, she was the first to wear the short skirt costume... thus encouraging cis gender males to watch figure skating. Thanks Sonja!

Why don’t more male figure skaters wear skirts?

For a couple of the "men" skaters, we are only one step away.

Once upon a time it was a matter of cultural expectations. Today, it's a matter of television ratings. Women's sports have always walked a fine line between selling athletics vs. selling sex appeal. The women invariably want to be recognized for their athletic abilities and competitive spirit. But they also want to be paid as well as the men, they know that depends on viewership, and that in turn leads to deferring to the reality that large numbers of men will tune in to watch pretty girls in skimpy outfits

Indeed, sex appeal is the main reason, just as NFL cheerleading, and which is part of the degeneration of the sport. A women's sexual beauty - and it is beauty and a testimony to special creation - should be for husband to behold and has compliment on her one, though with a love that transcends the physical, and is not for public consumption.

A women of beauty who seeks to attention by baring most of her body cheapens herself, and the "fish" she catches with this "bait" likely will be those who value the superficial and transitory.

God Himself only reveals His glory to those who have entered into covenant with Him, while the basic beauty of His revelation invites seekers to see beyond the veil by entering into this covenant. And which seeking prepares the heart for proper receiving.

This does not mean a tent, but the Godly counsel of "dress in such a way that the first thing a man looks at is your face," corresponds to the Biblical admonition, "that women adorn themselves in modest apparel..." (1 Timothy 2:9)

Maybe it’s required that females do a certain number of movements where they ski in circles with a leg raised to the sky and their crotch on display. The pervs on the judging panel probably demand it. Where did the pants-clad skier come out in the standings? Did she medal?

A more relevant question is what year will the Olympics allow men to wear skirts and be paired with other men for mixed skating .. A more relevant question is what year will the Olympics allow men to wear skirts and be paired with other men for mixed skating ..

May it be never, but even at present, I do not think the Olympic "gods" would dare disallow it.

Today, the ISU’s official handbook says only that competitors in ladies’ singles must wear something “modest, dignified, and appropriate for athletic competition” and rules out that which is “garish,” “theatrical,” or gives “the effect of excessive nudity inappropriate for the discipline.”

Nothing subjective here!:non:
