This Teenager Accused Two On-Duty Cops Of Rape. She Had No Idea The Law Might Protect Them.
Buzzfeed ^

Posted on 02/07/2018 6:28:17 AM PST by JP1201

Inside, Anna said the detectives took turns raping her in the backseat as the van cruised the dark streets and as she sat handcuffed, crying and repeatedly telling them “No.” Between assaults, she said, the van pulled over so the cops could switch drivers. Less than an hour later, a few minutes’ drive from where it all began, the detectives dropped Anna off on the side of the road, a quarter-mile from a police station, surveillance footage shows. She stood on the sidewalk, her arms wrapped around her chest, looking up and down the dimly lit street and pacing slowly before borrowing a cell phone from a passerby to call a friend.

The cops made no arrest, issued no citation, filed no paperwork about the stop. Hours later, Anna and her mother went to a hospital, where Anna told nurses two detectives had sexually assaulted her, according to hospital records. Semen collected in Anna’s rape kit matched the DNA of detectives Eddie Martins, 37, and Richard Hall, 33, of the Brooklyn South narcotics unit. Both have since resigned from the force and been charged with rape.

But Anna didn’t know that in New York, there is no law specifically stating that it is illegal for police officers or sheriff’s deputies in the field to have sex with someone in their custody. It is one of 35 states where armed law enforcement officers can evade sexual assault charges by claiming that such an encounter — from groping to intercourse — was consensual.

For some reason, I think there’s more to this story than is presented in this article.

When we need to legislate ethics and morality, the future is pretty bleak.

Smug, much? The vast majority of LEO do their job every day with little thanks and at great risk, and yet you seem to think most of them are out to harm people or pets.

Would you care to name any occupation where 100% are honest, competent, or in any other way perfect? No dishonest or criminal doctors, lawyers, plumbers, bus drivers, etc? Nobody hates criminal cops more than other cops, because almost all cops are good people.

I believe rape is illegal, even if you’re a cop.

There's no law specifically stating that it is illegal for anyone to have sex with someone else. Yet rape statutes still exist.

These ex-cop scum are charged with rape. Where's the headline's 'legal protection?'

Sensationalized click-bait story.

“more to this story”

It’s Buzzfeed. Of course there is.

Like the truth.

NO police department would let this happen. Not a damned chance.

I’m no fan of policing overall (Because of the SOP, not the man behind the badge) but this is absurd.

i don’t think cops are ever vetted for their ethics and morality. If they are anywhere I want to know. For sure Minnesota doesn’t or that Muslim cop wouldn’t have been hired. Clearly NY doesn’t. I remember visiting Atlanta with a friend of mine (both of us were Waves at the time) and two cops trying to pick us up. We would have none of it and kept walking away from them, away away and finally they quit following us. So maybe Georgia doesn’t either...I wonder if all policemen and women were required to take a sophisticated morals and ethics written exam with oral followup if that might make a difference?

First of all, you're wrong about not being vetted.

And you must despise every doctor since hearing about what Dr. Nassar did to those gymnasts. Because if you can judge every cop by this story, then you must judge all doctors because of the Nassar story.

2 on duty police officer’s having sex with an 18 year old girl they just arrested in the back of a van.

The girl claims she was raped, the officer’s claim it was consensual.

I’ll believe the girl on this one.

Oh great, another cop thread to draw out the cop hating stormfront trolls.

That being said, what these two did was wrong and they should pay for it and the law or lack there of should be changed.

It is against the law for prison guards to have sex with prisoners for obvious reasons. It should be the same for police officers in regards to someone under their custody again for obvious reasons.

There's a possibility that she struck a deal with them: "let me go without arresting me (for drugs or whatever) and I'll have sex with you both". It would still at least be corruption, and they still should have been fired.

Sadly no. But most professions weed out their bad actors, they get memberships revoked, licenses pulled and their professional colleagues will testify against them.

Police never do wrong in the eyes of their own Internal Affairs investigators, and I can't recall a single officer testifying against another no matter how egregious the crime under color of authority.

Are you OK with that?

Nobody hates criminal cops more than other cops, because almost all cops are good people.

Is that why they will perjure themselves under oath protect them from even the slightest hint of scandal?

It is really sad when a good and decent cop who would never even consider doing the evil a few of their colleagues do will unhesitatingly defend them.

Helpful hint: if you’ve arrested the person and they’re in your custody, the intercourse is, by definition, non-consensual.
