Scroll down to the "new" Operational Combat Uniform. Basically the same uniform 75th Rangers had, (and LRRPs and Snake Eaters wore when not in Tiger Stripes) in Vietnam 50 effing years ago.
Change # 7352A .... at a probable cost of 70 Bazillion Dollars!!!

Looks a lot more like a derivative of Crye Precision’s “Multicam” than anything related to the old Tiger Stripe stuff.
At least they’re getting rid of the Army version of digital camouflage, which was terrible.
But they probably have huge warehouses of the current uniforms, and the last two or three as well!
Not TS, but the early RVN style ripstop, light weight fatigues, but in camo.
I am sure someone got a nice bonus for doing this. But I think my 4 year old could do this with her “Fashion Designer Set”.

This is the biggest non story of the day. The change to OCPs began in June of 2015. The mandatory possession date for the new uniform is simply the wear out date for the old BDU’s.
All 4 branches had the same camo uni at that time.

What’s with you two?
1. The army BDUs in digital concrete grey sucked: lousy camouflage, odd neck closure. They needed a better combat uniform.
2. Uniforms evolve, as they should to meet new requirements.
3. If it costs a “Bazillion dollars” so what? Those soldiers are some of very few able-bodied folks volunteering to maybe face death for all of us. Better uniforms and maybe better weapons are the least we can do for them.
What explains the US Navy blue/gray flecked camo? Was watching a tour of one of the LCS class ships and the guide, petty officer?, was wearing them on deck with the gray sea in the background. Kind of hard to spot “Navy person” overboard in bad weather one would think.
The real clincher will come when (if) we decide to go into North Korea, and (re)discover that the old Woodland BDU pattern from the black-shoe Army days is the best choice. Multicam-based camo patterns exist now in (in addition to the original) desert (very pale), jungle (darker than standard and very green), and urban (mostly charcoal gray). Maybe they’ll revise it again to add a woodland scheme as well.
New US Army uniform ping. From my observation, over the past year, of soldiers wearing this new design, it is a slight variation of the combat uniform that was issued to US troops in Afghanistan 2-3 years ago.

I hope you are jesting. I served 23 years in my beloved Corps. We changed our uniforms a couple of times while I was active but not to the extent that the Army has. Just poking fun at the Old Dogs.
As to new requirements, the Army BDU did not change based upon a new requirement. It changed because folks at the Pentagon wanted something modern.
It’s only “government waste” when you’re a comfortable non-serving civilian.
To one of our young warriors, it might mean the difference between life and death.
Personally, I hate service avoiders.
