A leading art gallery is facing a furious backlash after taking down a Pre-Raphaelite masterpiece in a bid to 'provoke debate'. Manchester Art Gallery has temporarily removed John William Waterhouse's Hylas and the Nymphs in an attempt to rethink historical artwork that 'presents the female body as either a 'passive decorative form' or a 'femme fatale'.'

From the tweets in the news story:
“How can visitors discuss it if you’ve removed it?”
CHANGE!
There is no need to discuss the past, there is only the Marxist NOW
Also, see Schrodinger’s Cat for circle jerk philosophical discussions about things you cannot see.

Deeper in the article is this:
“The Cube Gallery in the South Downs Heritage Centre in Hassocks, West Sussex was forced to remove these photos from an exhibition last year”
And 2 photos (from the 1920s?) that are tamer than a Victoria’s Secret catalog were pulled/banned.
Nannystatism says its for your own good.

Since they nymphs are actually planning to drag Hylas down to his doom, perhaps the feminists thought the painting was a bit too accurate an allegory to modern enlightened relationships. :)

The PreRaphaelites have been a lightning rod for feminists for a very long time. One of the founders of the movement, DG Rossetti, had a sister, Christina, who was perhaps the finest female English language poet of the 19th century, and a decent artist in her own right. The PRB’s biggest sin was in portraying traditional gender roles and portraying femininity and its accompanying vulnerabilities and strengths.

I was going to make a comment on what should be done to these people, but it was too violent.

If they don’t want it, I’ll take it.
I love Waterhouse’s work.

Those girls are NOT prepubescent. I guess they’re trying to imply pedophilia.

Is it Hylas, Hyalas or Hyalus? The Daily Mail article spells it three ways. Got a proof reader over there guys?

The radical dykes of the 1968 Red Communist revolution throughout the West are not going quietly into their old age.

Thanks C19fan. I had a Alma-Tadema calendar (same era) in my cubicle at a job years, and an ugly Dutch spinster from the next office asked why I was allowed to display pornographic pictures. I know -- let's just have a big bonfire, kinda like Burning Man, but instead of an effigy, just pile on all art. The honor of lighting the pyre will go to someone from ISIS or the Taliban.

They are nude.
The difference between naked and nude-
Naked: all of your clothes are off
Nude: none of your clothes are on
