I’m already on there. I leave the code breaking up to the professionals (think Corsi). Am just worried about getting triggered by Maxine to post another James Brown link tonight. :)

Where does Julian Assange fit in your model?
_________________________________

Has Assange changed sides, back and forth, like Snowden and Bannon? I don’t mean is he a hero or a traitor. That’s opinion and I personally think he not only did the right thing with Wikileaks (all of it....he leaks from every country, every *side*, as a vendor for vetted whistleblowers), but he paid a price with years of isolation. Given the price paid, he’s closer to the Hero side of the archetype spectrum.

Where does he fit in the Marvel Universe format (or within any story, really)? He’d be a constant, a archetypal reminder that there is always a price to pay even (especially?) when acting from the highest motives, an icon as well as an iconoclast. I asked my husband and he can’t think of a MU parallel, either.

I went back into Greek mythology for an example and came up with the Titan Prometheus who stole fire from the gods to give to mankind. The Hero, Hercules, killed the eagle who was devouring Prometheus’ ever-regenerating liver and freed him.

This seems a good fit with Assange, with perhaps Trump as Hercules (cleaning out the Aegean Stables in a day and the rest, most of which involved killing some ferocious beast or another or going on successful quests. Killing the Lernaean Hydra is a great fit with Draining the Swamp), except, unlike Hercules, Trump has no great crime for which to atone and has volunteered for his heroic mission, instead of serving a penance. (AFAIK).

A really good question, given the conversation. Thanx. I enjoyed attempting to answer it.

Maybe it's retribution for a loved one that was wronged in the past.

“You wanted Bobby Deo, you got him.”

(after another gratuitous murder by the hired thug)

There was a book several years ago that was a crime novel by a group of well-known Florida writers, each doing one chapter. The problem was, each author put in his own characters, to give them a little publicity.

I watched them read part of their own chapters down at the Union Square bookstore. Leonard had the job of writing the next-to-last chapter, and he decided to kill all the other authors’ characters off.

As he finished recounting the slaughter, the whole place went 100% wild.

Then he autographed anything you wanted him to autograph (not all authors do this, because they want to sell their latest book; Leonard was beyond caring about penny ante stuff like that). I had a first edition library copy among my other treasures. He said, “What did you do, steal this?”

My favorite author was Michael Crichton. I read everything he wrote. But then he died.

My next favorite author was Vince Flynn. I read everything he wrote. But then he died.

My absolute favorite author was Elmore Leonard. I read everything he wrote. But then he died.

I no longer want a favorite author.

Why we call them archetypes, eh?

I write(so far) YA sci-fi (indie), so in a way, yes, in so far as the structure/concepts/characters are universal/timeless. As to this content? I lack the military and governmental skill sets. If I had those skill sets, background, vocabulary...don’t know. It would be daunting, even with a timeline already set.

It’ll take someone like Steve Pieczenik. I’d watch for a new Jack Ryan. ;)
