As his lawyer, he will do everything to protect his client. I can see why he’d want to keep this from the jury.

I agree with the lawyer. Irrelevant. The DA might as well tell the jury he was an aficionado of the Free Republic or that he voted for President Trump, LOL. The trial needs to be held on the evidence.
