The National Alliance of Theater Owners (NATO) announced Wednesday that the national ticket average for 2017 rose 3.7 percent year-over-year to $8.93, up from $8.65 last year.
At that average, the estimated number of movie tickets sold last year is 1.23 billion. While that is only a rough estimate that does not account for the higher ticket prices for premium formats and theaters in more expensive cities like New York and Los Angeles, NATOs estimate is the lowest since 1993, when Jurassic Park was the top grossing film of the year and an estimated 1.24 billion tickets were sold.

Yes, and the media tries to whitewash this all the time by talking about ticket “revenue”. They don’t want to give us the reality.
“Whats a movie theater?”
Last year marked the second year that my wife and I didn’t see a single movie in a movie theater.
In fact we have watched an American made movie on our tv for years. One of the reasons to cut our cable was the added cost of the movie channels to our Comcast bill. Movie channels, we never watched and yet paid for.
Our lack of movie attendance or watching at home is similar to our lack of National Felon League watching on our TV since last year’s Colon cancer attack.
Yes, but I wonder if the difference is made up on international ticket sales? I actually think movies are generally better these days, hate me for saying that. But it is not the ones that win awards. Sin City, 300, Beowulf, Watchmen, Xmen series, Avengers series, Planet of the Apes....maybe there is a pattern there. Sci Fi and Fantasy have come a long way.
So? I didnt pirate them.
Actually with the level of sophistication in CGI technology today, real actors and actresses are obsolete. I know that Hollyweird cannot appropriate known faces and names, but I am waiting for the arrival of new “STARS” that are not people at all. The technology certainly exits today to make a full feature film without any real people and I would wager that you cannot even tell if they are real or CGI made up.
Whats a movie theatre?
That is not a misspelling. Theatre is how it is spelled in England.
And Theater is the corrected spelling in the USA ;^)
Without horror movies over peforming, it would have been much worse.
coco and jedi were not horror movies but some may think so. LOL. Disney raking in billions.
I like to go to movies in the early afternoon M-F and listen to a senior woman explain every line of dialogue to her clueless deaf husband as if they were home alone watching on their couch. Great stuff. i will die in a theatre asking someone to shut up of shut down their cell screen.
I think there were theatres a few hundred years before MOVIE theaters.
could you creep-mail me a list of the crude demanding sexual movies. Just for research purposes.
Yeah Disney earns a huge percent of total profits.
With butter? I know you’re thinking about it.
I think I saw two movies last year.
Have you seen the movie Simone? I can see it coming.
NO MORE LEFT OVERS.
The audience is spoon fed mush, warmed up mush leftovers, and liberal bile. UGH!
A new remake of an old film. We’ve seen the original, no need for the duplicate.
Political agenda - we live with it, know how it plays. WE WILL NOT pay for it a second time.
Hollywood has lost its magic, its writers, and many of its star quality actors have died.
It will not go quietly, demanding a large wake when the inevitable eventually occurs.
Liberals - they make a S***Hole of EVERYTHING
Asking for a friend, I assume.
research, my friend, research
Throw in some powdered parm cheese and hot sauce..and I will think about it.
