While not a Charlize Theron fan by any stretch of the imagination, I just watched the DVD of this film and since there is not a review of it on FR that I could find, here is my 2 cents--

Charlize Theron is an very good looking woman even as she moves into her 40s and is still sexy as hell!

Now that is a fact unless you are a true blue, blind member of Spanky's Little Rascals "Woman Haters Club" or bat only for the other team.

That said, Ms Theron has expressed political opinions I highly disagree with over the years and her taste in men, Sean Penn particularly, have not endeared her to my heart. However, I have always rated her a pretty good actress, especially her American accent since she reported came to the good old USA with a South African one that was said to be able to grade cheese with--

Her Academy Award winning performance in 2003's Monster did not really impress me but them again, I don't really care for most biographical crime dramas.

Head in the Clouds I though she did a excellent job as the lead, Gilda Bessé, who gives the plot a wicked twist at the end.

Now, we come to Atomic Blonde where she acted the hell out of her role while she literally kicked ass and blew my mind in the fight performances and the stunt cred she showed!

For the first time in many years I replayed the fight scenes over and over again as they were done better than I have ever seen. They were not pure CGI creations and played out in a realistic fashion in that she did not do anything out of true human possibility.

I ever went to youtube and watched Movie Stunt Coordinator Breaks Down 'Atomic Blonde' Fight Scene where the film's stunt coordinator and second unit director Sam Hargrave breaks down every fight scene. Again, very little CGI was involved.

Now the kicker here (pun intended) is the plot. Coming from a 2012 graphic novel and from left leaning Hollywood, the ending would not be lost in any War Film made before they sold their souls to the Democrat Party.

So, if you have not watched Atomic Blonde because of the leftness of Hollywood or Ms Theron, give it a look. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Charlize is one of my favorite african actresses. Even when I dont like her movies she does seem to give 100% in her roles , unlike some actresses that totally phone in their performances. The movie suffers from having WAY too much plot instead of just focusing on her beating up people. Is basically a cold war female version of John Wick.

The genders(whatever that means now) are equal, but if you defend yourself and retaliated against a woman that is hitting you, you are a monster.

It is unfortunate that the Hollywood illusion that women are just as strong as men and can kick their a$$, and more dangerously, that men should not fight back when under attack, is supported by all the sickening soyboy/beta male/white knights.

I watched this movie and found it quite entertaining. I am a man however that can be swayed by the opposite sex’s ways obtained by centuries of natural selection and practice.

I saw this on the Big screen (at theaters) when it first opened. I was quite looking forward to it. However, after struggling to stay awake through the whole thing, I must say that I was very, very disappointed.

It was boring as hell. It had the look and feel of one of those old European spy movies with many characters that all look and sound the same, lots of indistinguishable dialog, not much action and poorly lit.

Worthwhile if you need some kind of cure for insomnia but I don’t remember a more boring movie...maybe “The Spy Who Came in from the Cold” is close.

The double plot twist at the end was creative.

Spoiler:

.

.

.

.

.

.

She was a double agent, sent to look for a secret list of agents that included a traitor. No one seemed to know that she was the double agent. She was Satchel.

You learn that at the end if you haven’t figured it out.

And then...

You learn the 2nd plot twist.

Not spoiled above.

In the meantime, if you accept that she is the double agent, her killings are quite politically incorrect, and the guy the movie makes you *think* is Satchel turns out to have been one of the good guys, who she murdered.

Lots of un-PC smoking. Reagan is the good guy. Gorbachev is the bad guy.

The weak lesbian gets slayed...but only after a couple of gratuitous sex scenes!

East Germany and the CCCP get portrayed as awful places and people.

I AM a YUGE fan of the “actress” Charlize Theron.

She is drop dead gorgeous IMO. I think she is a VERY good actress.

My first exposure to her was in the film “Sweet November”. I literally fell in love with her.

“AEon Flux” was great. I love Sci-Fi.

“The Italian Job” (good movie, not so much about her), “Hancock”, “Prometheus”, all okay.

I HATED “Monster”. Not just because they made her ugly, but I thought the movie itself SUCKED! I thought her acting was AWFUL! ATROCIOUS! And she got an Oscar for best actress in that film??????????????????????

Personally and politically she’s a JERK. Think Matt Damon. BUT she is WAY better to look at!

More stupid fantasy that women will beat your skinny effete male ass

Tailor made for male millenials who let mommy or ovarian superior keep their testicles in the same garbage can she keeps her used tampons in

Here’s my review:

This would have been an ok spy/action thriller if the role played by Theron was a man instead of a skinny girl. Even the sex scenes, for Pete’s sake (Theron has sex with a woman, for those of you who haven’t seen it).

In fact, it is as if the makers of this movie had a decent script with a man as the lead, but said “You know what would make this great? A woman in the lead! How progressive!”

Regardless of what kind of fantasy-land beliefs you may have about women in combat, one of the reasons women are more vulnerable than men is because they can’t tolerate as much punishment as men. Theron’s character repeatedly takes blows to the head that would have killed her in real life, but she just looks more angry.

I saw “Atomic Blonde” and liked it. I do agree the strong female being able to take out the big bad guys stretches the imagination. That seems to be trend in action and spy movies with female leads these days.

Charlize Theron would be perfect to reboot the “Modesty Blaise” series.

“Modesty Blaise” was a action/spy film from 1966 based on a comic strip and series of books by Peter O’Donnell. At one time the comic strip was in hundreds of papers worldwide.

Modesty was woman who started out as a criminal and ended up running the biggest criminal empire in Europe with her sidekick and lethal enforcer, Willie Garvin. Later Modesty semi-retires and due to some relationship with the head of MI6, helps them out from time to time.

This would be the perfect vehicle for someone like Theron to be in. Would have to find someone to play Willie Garvin.

For those of you from the Baby Boomer era Modesty was played by Italian Actress Monica Vitti, here is the link:
