Yep. It will limit the committee’s ability to give it to the SEC, but I have a feeling those two open spots would be SEC heavy (even when they don’t deserve it).

Maybe no more than 2 teams from one conference in the 8 team playoff should be a rule too. Sure it will always get two SEC teams that way (ESPN needs to make their money back) but at least it will keep them from stacking 3 teams from the SEC in the playoff.

Before the National Anthem had ended, the MSM was reporting that Trump didn’t know the words to the song.

So Auburn beat GA so then by all the mathematical equations people use to decide who is best, it is logically impossible for GA to beat Auburn in the same season? Is that what I am hearing?

It was a great game. I had no rooting interest in either team, but it was really well-played, and made me respect Saban as a coach even more, though I can’t say I’m a fan.

Clearly Georgia was completely ready for the Jalen Hurts offense, and to put in an untested Freshman in that situation and have faith in him and have him perform at that level was just incredible.

UCF woulda beat em both, of course.

Huh? Auburn (even with 2 losses) was the #1 team in the SEC the last week of the season. I think they were #1 in the country too.

UFC beating them is proof they are the best. They are undefeated which is the gold standard. And it’s solid gold when they beat a #1 team in the final week of the season.

UFC is the true national champs. Not a winner of a rigged playoff that leaves out the toughest conference champ two years in a row (Big10) and the only undefeated team in the nation.

UCF could beat them. Would they win every time? Of course not, but they did beat the #1 team from the final week of the season (Auburn). The same Auburn that beat both those teams. So clearly UCF can hang in there with the best from the SEC.

The question is can they hang with the best from the Big10? That we don’t know because the committee/ESPN made sure not to put in the best from the Big10 this year (again).

Ok. We in Alabama will, however, will be holding on to the trophy.

The SEC is like Hillary. And the committee is like the DNC.

What they didn’t expect is for Trump (UCF) to win the election (bowl game).

GA beat Auburn, Alabama beat Georgia, Auburn beat Alabama, Auburn beat GA thus logically the transitive property of mathematics must not apply to College football. There must be something more mysterious at work:)

I will say, yes, I wanted GEORGIA to win. And the reality is that Nick Saban had little choice BUT to pull his starting QB since what he was doing was not working. Yet, I think that when viewed through the lens of football history, Saban’s decision to pull Jaylen Hurts will be seen as, as BOLD as General MacArthur’s landing at Inchon!

“UCF could beat them. Would they win every time? Of course not, but they did beat the #1 team from the final week of the season (Auburn).”

Yes, and Wofford beat then-#5 UNC in basketball last month. Stuff happens when you pit a bunch of 20-year-olds against each other. But there is no way UCF is one of the best four football teams in the country. And, yes, Auburn beat Georgia at home earlier in the season, but they got waxed by the Dawgs in the SEC championship game. Wasn’t even close.

I would add, this was an ESPN wet dream. They likely maximized revenue by having an SEC team at both ends of the Championship bracket.

I expect ESPN will be shilling for SEC teams again in next pre-season’s rankings to give themselves a better chance at success of cajoling the Bowl committee to have at least two SEC teams in the running again. Particularly since it is nearly impossible to be considered in the National conversation if you do not begin in the top ten in preseason polls.

Follow the money trail between the SEC and ESPN. ESPN just made up for lost revenue due to its obvious liberal views regarding the NFL, Trump, etc.

Did not watch the ESPN bowl. Will not until college football champions continue to be subject to popularity contests with broadcast contracts weighing heavily on who participates, unlike how it is in NCAA basketball.

I have never liked polls/rankings/consensus in sports. If they were worth anything, the USSR should have been given the 1980 Ice Hokey Gold Medal, the Patriots should have been given the Lombardi trophy in 2011, and the 1969 Orioles given the Commissioner’s trophy. Oh, and if you consider politics a sport, Hillary should have been sworn in as President without an election. Sports is about competition, not polls, rankings or consensus. So, since NCAA football does not lend itself for true competition among legitimate contenders for the National Championship then there is no true college football national champion.

Regards.

The butthurt here are actually anti SEC bigots not UCF fans
By their measure the college super bowl should be

university of central Florida versus Mount Union college

Since being undefeated with puss schedules is everything
